Refresh me, what happened with Beth and Al originally? She just got tired of waiting? What happened when he did come back, she didn't want him?

Welcome one? Why not?

Other honorable mentions which could do very good in rebooting in my opinion:

_Xena: The Warrior Princess
_Mutant X
_Duck Tales (cartoon)
_Captain Planet (cartoon)
_Gumby (claymation)

Was also thinking that..Given that it would be a reboot, the characters really couldn't be the same from the past 35 years. It would have to reflect that in the story so

Was thinking James Franco as a "Sam"

And John Slattery as an "Al"

IMO, the QL reboot should be an all female cast....KIDDING

But I think Al should be a witty comedic actor, who can also throw in some drama here and there. Nobody in particular comes to mind at the moment.

Al was a POW for several years. The Navy even declared him dead. Beth met another guy and had married him by the time Al was finally released and she discovered he was still alive.

I had to go with John Slattery on that. Al was an aging womanizer who could actually get them too. Also covering up a lot of pain, regret and turmoil.

John can be a funny guy as we saw on mad men. I think he could hold his own in the dramatic parts too and overall role.

I'd envision his character being a former journalist who was on scene for events like the first gulf war, Somalian black hawk battle, etc. Possibly taken as a hostage by a radical group if you want to still go down the POW route.

I just think he could nail it and it would be cool to see him back on tv.

He would likely never even pick up the phone to say no but Bill Murray would make for a killer Al.

What the hell would the "Ziggy" handset look like?

That thing was horrendous and one mark against the show. Terrible prop for such a good show.

Sam would probably have to be a woman and Al will have to be gay.

No. I would not welcome another reboot.

I'd rather a Voyagers! reboot.

I would like it, but proper casting would be crucial.

Strangely, with their acting chops I think Macy would make a really good Beckett and Rockwell would do well as Al, just from their typical acting standpoint.

Or combine the two suggestions and use Franco as Beckett and Rockwell as Al and be set. Franco does serious well and can play the intelligent guy pretty well. Rockwell can walk the fine line of serious and comedic like Macy can and Al needs.

I wouldn't mind a Quantum Leap reboot but it would have to be done with a modest budget and put on a channel or service not demanding huge numbers like Fox, ABC, NBC or CBS. The show would need to stay intelligent and for a thinking viewer instead of trying to play to masses.

Absolutely. This was one of my favorite shows growing up.

However, in the next episode, Sam didn't hesitate to save his brother's life (who had originally died) in Vietnam.

The end of that episode (Leap Home II) was truly a gut punch. Al could have saved himself from being a POW, but he left things as they were so Sam could attempt to save his brother.

I also liked how close Sam and Al were. In the Leap Home I, Sam was bitching about it "not being fair" and all told him straight up: I think it's DAMNED fair, you getting to see your family again.

Considering the fact that I fully intend to name my first son Samuel Beckett BamaCheme (and my wife is cool with it), you could say I'm a fan of the original.

A reboot would be awesome, but I'd be worried about the studio/writer trying to give the character of Sam more angst that would change the character from the ultimate good guy that would have all the qualities I would want in a son, to someone with an unnecessarily dark secret or personality flaw.

I'd still watch the hell out of it, I may just have to come up with a new name if my fears were realized...

Motivation would be a young Dr Bruce Banner who never lost control.
