Being the scientist/leaper is supposed to be able to only travel through the years of his own lifetime, (say he's mid 30s) you would have the events from 1980s, 90s, 2000s playing part with the music and trends.

If produced by a premium network, where punches don't have to be pulled and let's say even amc.

I know a lot of people didn't like the original, I think it was just the delivery and poor writing, because that story could be legit if served right. Especially for tv today.

Sitting here trying to cast the series, like if you could get two legit actors on board..who would make a good Dr Sam Beckett & Al?

Very much.

We were never really given a proper ending and it's not like Quantum Leap is sacred ground or anything.

I would welcome a reboot.

torwards the end it got a little weak. I loved the show as a kid, but sometimes they dropped the ball...Wish they could just,..go back and right that wrong.

Meh. I like the fact that Bellisario was ambitious. I liked some of the permutations they tried out in the final season - e.g. the evil leaper.

I think overall you'd have to say the writing and execution of the show was excellent. Some episodes are among the best TV ever made (The Leap Home, I and II are true masterpieces.)

Absolutely if it was given the resources to succeed. Good writing team and the right guy to play the lead and it would be a good show.

Quantum Leap has the potential for much better story telling than a show about a talking car.

1 guy who makes a difference in the world righting wrongs with a side kick he created.

Same story. KR you have KITT, QL you have Ziggy.

This is an excellent idea. All comes down to good writing and a good actor/actress. Original Quantum Leap was good but could have been great.

The plot of the show with Mad Men-esque attention to detail and production? Would be awesome.

I loved the ending?

He loses Al though because he sends him back? He's never a POW.

I would love it, I'm actually surprised it hasn't been done already.

LOVE that show.

*spoiler talk**

(As to the ending of the original, didn't Sam basically sacrifice his life, in order to change Al's life so that he never gets captured, thus allowing him stay married to his first wife, and also having kids?)

Sure...loved that show and is a really great spin on time travel.

As for casting, let's say it's an AMC or Netflix type show so it'll have a 12 episode run or something...so how about:

Sam Rockwell as Dr. Sam Beckett

William H. Macey as Al

In the last episode, Al the bartender told Sam he could leap wherever he wanted. One of the biggest unresolved threads of the series had been Sam lecturing Al that he couldn't change his own past with regard to his first wife, Beth. However, in the next episode, Sam didn't hesitate to save his brother's life (who had originally died) in Vietnam.

So, in the final episode, Sam leaped into Beth's house (right after he had leaped out in a previous episode) to tell her that Al was alive and that he was coming home. The text at the end of the episode said Al and Beth were still married, and showed a picture of them with their children.

So, he didn't sacrifice his life, and Al still got captured, but he finally put right what once went wrong for his best friend.

What was OP's question again? A reboot? Sure, why not. Unfortunately, it would probably wind up on SyFy, filming in Canada with a shoestring budget. That's not a show I'd get too excited about.
