I think Phantom Menace is one of the worst movies ever made. I would be down with remakes/reboots of those movies - get rid of Jar-Jar, dump a lot of the CGI for practical FX, give Darth Maul more to do, jettison all the bad Anikan/Padme dialogue. Of course, I'm sure this will never happen.

I think Episode I and III in particular are highly watchable films.

Who is the protagonist in Episode I?

I don't understand this complaint. Not every film has a single clear-cut protagonist. Plenty of movies focus on a group of people rather than a single person.

The PT is horrendous from top to bottom but I think it's time we all move along. And while they are awful movies they have their moments of fun.

If I had a crystal ball and could see that they would be done well, then yes I would be for it. I would erase the Lucas versions from history and insert the new ones instead. I wouldn't want it to interfere with their current schedule of main story, spin-off every other year. They could do it on the side and it would just be bonus Star Wars when those came out.

No.

Just move on and give me some different Star Wars stories. It's a big universe, plenty of other stuff to tell.

Hell no. Need to move on. They have tens of thousands of years and countless villains and heroes to work with. Why waste time re-telling a story that's already been told?

if they redo 1-3 they may as well redo the entire thing.

which will probably happen eventually

another 50 years of recycled ideas and they'll get around to it

I really wish they would lease out certain storylines for a miniseries on HBO, Netflix, etc. They could have a field day with the characters in the Old Republic.

Which would be fine if the whole group was engaged in a collective conflict with some sort of resolution. That doesn't happen in Episode I. It's just a bumbling set of coincidences intended to introduce Anakin to the audience the consequences of which have literally no bearing on the rest of the saga.

As to the OP, the Prequels are a mess and should be completely scrapped but you can't do that because so much cannon is built off of them.

What they should do is commission someone to write a new Prequel series under the Legends heading.

Qui Gon is obviously the protagonist. It's a passing of the torch film to Obi-Wan.

If be redo you mean erase and comoletely start over, then yes.

Squeeze every bit you can out of Kasdan and Abrams can fill in a few corners.

What's his central conflict? How does his character develop? And if he is the protagonist, why does Lucas kill him off in the first movie of a trilogy?

This film is such a mess.

As long as Jar Jar Binks remains and has larger roles, I'm fine with them doing whatever.

Wouldn't endorse remaking the prequels. They are out there, the story is built on what they presented.

Totally ok with additional movies inside that timeframe.

Somebody mentioned questions about protagonists... to me, that is missing the point. Star Wars has a historical feel to it, like a fictional counterpart to the European part of WW2. That backdrop is the centerpiece, and as long as they maintain it, almost any story will fit within. I'd rather we see more war stories, than individual stories (especially, let's explore a non-Skywalker segment more).
