I personally have always said he’s my favorite actor for his role versatility and just for being fricking awesome in every movie he’s in.

Can anyone name an actor better than him off the top of your head? I say this because I really cant...

Movies he’s starred in:
Big
Forrest Gump
Saving Private Ryan
The Green Mile
Davinci Code
Cast Away
The Terminal
Captain Phillips
Philadelphia
Apollo 13
Sleepless in Seattle
Turner & Hooch
Catch Me If You Can
All the Toy Story Movies
(And many more obviously)

Im watching Forrest Gump right now for the 100th time and I cant help but post this. I really do believe he is one of the best of all time, if not the best. (Hard for me to say any actor is THE BEST with all the different genres of TV, but he is my favorite).

He has to be considered one of the best of all time. Definitely one of the best natural actors of all time.

And as far as I know, it’s nice knowing that 99.999999% of people out there seem to love him like we all do.

He was flawless in Forrest Gump and The Terminal playing a completely different character. I look at the actors like Bruce Willis, Liam Neesom, and Keanu Reeves who I love, but have no character versatility like Hanks. There arent many actors who can/could do what he did. He is a true actor.

Classifying anything as “the best” is hard to justify. I try to never use that term. “One of the best” is more acceptable.

Yes. His performance in Cast Away where he makes you feel sorry for a volleyball is god tier acting.

Hey I completely agree with you. That’s kinda why I beat around the bush outside of my subject sentence. Im gonna edit it.

Edit: I originally said “the best” but changed to “one of the best.”

Cast Away gets hated on so fricking much as an overall movie, but it’s one of my favorite Tom Hanks movies. His character versatility in this movie is amazing. And the ending of it is sad, but so rewarding.

Jimmy Stewart:

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
It's a Wonderful Life
The Philadelphia Story
Vertigo
Rope
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Harvey
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Anatomy of a Murder
Bend of the River
Rear Window
The Naked Spur
Shenandoah
The Shop Around the Corner
Winchester '73

Harvey and Vertigo performances are some of the best ever from any actor, IMO.

Jimmy Stewart is in my top 5. I remember watching ROPE when I was younger and saying to myself he was awesome. But I cant put him above Tom Hanks. Tom’s versatility makes him more elite, and that’s no disrespect to Mr. Stewart.

His resume is impressive and he’s in the top tier category. But I wouldn’t say he’s the best actor overall

I respect that. Who would you say has a better/equal resume?

Not trying to be a dick, im genuinely curious who other people have at the top. It’s all subjective so no one can argue.

Jimmy Stewart is considered one of, if not the most versatile actor of all time. Great in comedies, drama and looked just as comfortable in westerns.

DiCaprio, Oldman, Cruise, Gibson, Hoffman, Kingsley to name a few top 10 for me. Gonna get hate and downvotes for 1,3, and 4 but they have all shown versatility. Pioneers always take the arrows, settlers take the land, so the more exposure, the more detractors. I just call it like I see it

Hanks and Robin Williams are (were, in William's case) both brilliant. I remember both when they were simply guys on TV sitcoms. You could tell Williams was potentially more, along the lines of a comedic genius, but Hanks on the other hand, he didn't seem like much... but he just kept on growing.

Top 10, and you can't really put one ahead of another. All of the greats have the capacity to put on a jaw dropping performance that none of the other great would interpret the same way.

John Cazale
Gene Hackman
Robin Williams
Al Pacino
DDL
Jack Nicholson
Tom Hanks
Marlon Brando

In regards to an actor who is the best at playing an ordinary man thrust into an extraordinary circumstance, Tom Hanks, all day every day
