People like old Nick Cage, pre-2000. However, he has been absolute shite since 2000, except for maybe Lord of War.

The Weather Man is Ana awesome movie.

He's made some fantastic movies and he's made some crap movies, but he's always entertaining.

I've said this many times on this board, but I'm a firm believer that any movie improves by casting Nicolas Cage. Sure he can be hammy as hell, but I love that magnificent bastard. Think how truly awful the Wicker Man would have been without him. Instead Nick Cage turned it into a priceless comedy.

I don't hate Nick Cage but The Wicker Man might be the worst movie ever made. It is so bad that it is unintentionally hilarious. I turn it on every time I see it on the guide and just marvel and laugh at it. I can't help myself.

His excess takes you out of the movie you're watching. It just becomes Nick Cage overacting in every other scene.

I have never seen the original and know nothing about. But yes, without any doubt, the newer one is worse. It has to be.

Honeymoon in Vegas hasn't been mentioned much, but I liked him in that movie.

Also great in his role in Kickass, which hasn't been mentioned much here

I've always felt that his best movies were with directors who had a clear understanding of how he operates. In turn giving him the best direction and getting the best performance out of him. It seems with these smaller budget movies that the directors somewhat concede to him allowing him to perform the scenes as he chooses which causes the overacting. Even still, when he overacts it's arguably the best overacting in the business.

Fair enough. I'm pretty sure Cage himself has said he's in on the joke re: his overacting, so who knows?

It's been a while since I've seen it but I thought he did well in The Rock for what it was. It used to be a guilty pleasure of mine. "How in Zeus's butthole did you get out of your cell.?"

Bad Lieutenant

And he had a great scene in Kick-arse when he was guiding his daughter as he died.

You need to watch it again.

It is hilarious on it's own merit.
