Why is Fear the Walking Dead not getting good reviews so far?

I think Madison Clark and Travis Manawa are much better leads so far than what I've seen from multiple seasons from Andrew Lincoln.
I also loving seeing LA meltdown from the very beginning of the outbreak.
Not sure why so many are ripping this show so far.

Guess you've never watched someone come down off drugs/alcohol. They sound insane are completely irrational.

3 episodes in, where the characters don't even know what they're dealing with, yet there's not enough killing. Mmmmkay.

They are spending time setting up the characters and telling the story of the outbreak from the beginning.
It's going to be slow but it's starting to pick up a little.

The pilot was very boring. Compared to the pilot of Walking Dead it was awful.
I stopped watching half way through it. Watched all three in a row Sunday. It is starting to pick up.

****SPOILERS FOR THE FOLKS THAT HAVEN'T SEEN LAST SUNDAYS EPISODE YET****
I think people were expecting more of a jump-in into the zombie-killing. They want the world to crumble in an episode and things to get "look at the flowers, Lizzie" cray-cray in a single episode. This show isn't that.
This show is a slow build-up to all that, but to get there we have to go through the world-building that went on while Rick was in a coma. There are lots of stories there to tell (as we're seeing with the surprise entry of the military at the end of the last episode) and many of them may feel like has-beens since we'll have seen them in some iteration already on TWD, but we'll get there. People just need to see the show for what it is, not what they are wanting to pigeon-hole it into being, and have the patience to let it grow into what it could be.

I think using the lack of zombie killing as the shows fault is a crutch. The real problem is the pacing of the show and the lack of any interesting characters. Very few scenes have been memorable so far.

I wouldn't call him a puss. In his mind, these are just sick people who might get better.
The concept of them being dead is just starting to emerge.
Also hesitant to commit murder or kill neighbors. Just hasn't figured it out yet.
I suspect his transformation into a ruthless, family protecting zombie killer is a major plot line.

Any folks from the original in this series?

I told my wife that she is more of a Rick character, and he is more of a Dale.

I think the problem is that people are comparing this to TWD. They wanted zombies right off the bat. Here we are getting the progression to that point. Once people get over their need for immediate gratification they can honestly review it.
