Changing accents is the most overrated thing in acting. I simply don't give a shite. I know Meryl Streep gets a lot of praise for her accents, and that's great, but she's not a great actress because she can do mimicry. She's a great actress because of the range of human emotion she can portray. I know Costner sucks at accents, but I simply do not care.

Costner doesn't have much range, but he's very good at making you like him. He has magnetism on the screen and his characters are just easy to like, even when they are kind of reprehensible (A Perfect World is the best example of this, and a very underrated film). He's good at what he does, and criticizing him because he's not something else seems rather silly. He's got a skill set, and he uses it well.

He's a movie star. That's what movie stars do.

Especially that 2nd Ghost Rider, absolutely pathetic, could not make it through the 1st half of the movie even, Costner has never done something that bad I have seen.

Liam Neeson seems like a cool guy in interviews but his characters have the same personality, same facial expressions, and his accent never changes. He'll have his Irish accent whether he's Zeus or a US admiral.

Clint Eastwood is even more limited.

I'm pretty apathetic about Costner. But, "Draft Day" looks like a made for tv movie.

Perhaps one of the silliest comments on this board. Ever.

Costner is a solid Hollywood actor, but he does not have terrific range. He's had some fine performances, but he's had some stinkers. I like him just fine in the right role.

And anyone that thinks Dances with Wolves sucks really has no place commenting on movies.

I wouldn't say it sucks. I would say, though, that it is overwrought, cliche' ridden, simplistic and self-indulgent. I mean it's a professional, well made movie, but it's not one of our greatest cinematic achievements.

No bc I dont like depressing movies, and I admit he got a lot of praise for that role and he could be great in it. But every movie I've seem him in, which is 5 or 6, he's been the same.

Accents aren't the most important thing but it is a skill that can add to a role. Costner should've been able to do an English accent in Prince of Thieves. Didn't ruin the movie for me but it was noticeable when he's the only person in 13th century England who sounds diffeent

It's apparently not very popular movie here. I liked it. I saw Draft Day and it was good too.

-Nick Cage is a more accredited actor with one Best Actor Oscar win and another nomination. Costner was nominated once and lost.

-Costner has won a total 6 Razzies (3 for Worst Actor) compared to no wins for Nick Cage even though he's been nominated quite often in his later roles.

-Nick Cage's movies have grossed more money than Costner's $2.4 billion to $1.8 billion

So Nick Cage won more awards for his acting and his movies grossed more than Costner's but, yes, I'm the fool for thinking Cage is better. Nick Cage can still give an Oscar worthy performance under the right circumstances. He has the talent to do so. Kevin Costner does not.

Edit: Didn't mean to turn this into Cage vs. Costner but OP started it.

I love Costner for being Costner.

Sure, he doesn't have the biggest range, but he knows that and doesn't give a frick.

He's the kind of actor who will be Costner 9 out of 10 times and do only what we expect him to do...be Costner.

However, one of these days he'll win the academy award because he'll find the perfect script that allows him to do what he does best - be Costner - but the story will be so incredible that it'll remind everyone why Costner is one of the biggest stars of the past 30 years.

People will be like, "WTF...that was an incredible movie! Costner was amazing. He deserves an academy award," and the irony is that he will have acted in that particular movie no differently than he's acted before.

He just need the perfect movie. And I believe it'll happen soon and come from out of left field.

The McConaughey effect.

That is a possibility.

Only vaguely related because Matthew has far more range and talent.
