Star Trek Beyond fell about $100 million short of Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness. It is one of the lowest grossing Star Trek movies ever, adjusted for inflation.

Was it because it was a bad movie?

Did it have a bad ad campaign?

Has the novelty of seeing other people play Kirk and Spock worn off?

Thoughts?

Pretty poor ad campaign. Good movie though. I'll be buying it. Probably the best of the 3 new ones. Definitely better than Khan 2: Electric Boogaloo

It wasn't a good movie, period. Boring storyline, forgettable villain, etc.

Honestly I had no idea this movie was even coming out this summer. The campaign budget must have been super low.

People finally realized this isn't "Star Trek" - except in name. It's "Fast and Furious" in space.

Plus, Chris Pine? Just awful.

No....that isn't the reason.

Haven't you bashed these movies enough in other threads? Take a breather. Gonna pop a blood vessel.

Get off my lawn!!!

I feel the same way. Star Trek has to have chemistry between the principal crew, it just isnt there...at all. Even worse they try to manufacture it and its painful to watch. But yeah lots of shite blows up yay.

Pine and the guy that plays Spock are boring.

I didn't even know it released. I am one hundred percent in their demo market and I don't think I saw a single thing about this movie other than George Takei getting mad that Sulu was gay.

Star Trek is the television show equivalent of a member of my family. I'm going to bash the new shite until they make it Star Trek again.

Honestly I didn't even know there was a new Star Trek movie out. I've seen zero advertising for it and nobody's been talking about it, zero buzz.

because Star Trek has run its course with the reboots. It was a good run.

Not to sound old, but the film may have fallen into the trap of modernizing the franchise to the point where it's just another modern action movie.

It was a fun movie and my favorite of the trilogy, but everything new about it was just new to the franchise, not new to action/sci-fi. Guardians of the Galaxy already did the classic rock is out of place but cool in space thing.

And showing the Enterprise being destroyed in the trailers isn't going to pique anyone's interest. That's been done to death.

The franchise will continue, but unfortunately Abrams is talking about more time travel which will lead to timeline resets and the other crap that bogged down the first film.

Yes it is. It doesn't have that distinct identity anymore. It's just yet another formulaic action series.

Yes, and I have a feeling this is partly due to the fact that Anton Yelchin died when he did. The studio has to be balance how they advertise their new movie without looking like they are trying to capitalize on his death.

I've liked all three, but I'm ready for a slower paced, more sci-fi specific film. Beyond was an action movie, a good one, but it couldn't stand out in a summer with Civil War, BvS and Suicide Squad.

Note: I have not seen the new one yet.

But I enjoyed the first two of this reboot franchise. I'm not a particularly huge fan of anybody in the cast, but I still enjoyed Pine, Quinto, etc. And I thought the stories and plots were decent enough to get me interested (although messing with time travel tends to convolute things, which it sort of did).

I was never really attached to ST in the past, outside of really liking TNG back in the day when I'd catch reruns a few times a week.

I will say that the trailers for this latest one, though, don't really look appealing. It just looks like a CGI-fest of shite blowing up (even moreso than the previous two).

This sums it up pretty well IMO:
