He said in a recent interview that he doesn't want the entire show to be about Trump.

This was almost an exact quote I heard from Oliver this week on some interview. It seems to me that he can't not talk about Trump on this first episode because so much has happened since last season, but I'd like to see them go back to less covered topics.

As much as I want him to distance himself from Trump, his names for the election were awesome: LINK

Also he needs to do a piece on Social Justice Warriors ruining America. It's an obvious one and something he hasn't gone after at all. It's the primary reason Trump is sitting in the Oval Office, and ignoring it any longer is dangerous. The only mainstream television guy going after it now is Bill Maher, and that's really it.
Completely agree. I am really hoping he does a "how did we get here" segment and really tries to dive into the issues at large.

Sorry, but he needs to make this stat clear: whites were actually down 1% for Trump compared to Romney, while minorities across the board (save for the gays and Jews) voted more heavily for Trump than Romney.
The "racist" diatribe doesn't make any sense when you look at the facts. At best you can say Trump's comments were racially insensitive, and minorities didn't really seem to care.

I just hope it isn't 30min of him fact checking everything Trump has said.

I don't have a problem with John Oliver. I do, however, have a problem with fans of his show who refuse to admit it is a left wing news program.
How can someone for example watch his segment on minimum wage and charter schools and not come away with the impression that he favors left wing policy?
It's a funny show but it's a show that tells liberals what they want to hear.

In his last show, he openly admitted his program was biased and represent his viewpoints. So he himself wouldn't deny that he's more left leaning than right.
At least he's honest about it, unlike CNN.

Hmm I'm sure you get all of your news from ole John eh? agree with everything he says too?!?! he's so edgy!
I like how it's easy to tell when you're supposed to laugh or be outraged at the outrageousness because he YELLS LOUDER!!! LoL, I'm already giggling just thinking about him yelling. I don't understand the jokes or read the news stories he refers to, but I don't I have to because he lets me know when I'm supposed to be outraged or amused, LOL.

I'm glad he is coming back on so he can tell me what year it is. I sometimes forget.
"How can people have elected someone like Trump, don't people know it's 2017?"
"How can people still have a problem with abortion, it's 2017!"
"How are the Republicans back in power, its 2017."

I think everyone will openly admit that, but everyone should be open to both sides of any argument and the whole "one side or another" is a major problem in our country's politics

People who listen to both sides of arguments are cowards who lack conviction. A true intellectual knows what he believes and sees no point in questioning it.

If they don't start getting better at picking their battles, I think the SJW angle could possibly come into play for the next election, but IMO it wasn't a deal-breaker for this past election....sure, it was probably "a" factor, but far from "the" factor. If the media didn't keep reporting a HRC victory as such a foregone conclusion, more anti-Trumpers might've actually bothered showing up to vote. Not to mention, simply having a candidate worth voting for in the first place probably would've helped too, lol...

How are we ever going to actually engage in substantive discourse if we think the other side should be laughed at?

I think it was, and Sam Harris agrees with me. Trump being elected is almost solely a repudiation of the Left from the public at large. He is the least politically correct person who has ever run for office and the general population said "frick you" to the MSM and the social justice movement.
If they keep it up with the Berkley shite, not only will Trump win reelection, but he will also get Virginia, Minnesota, and Colorado this time, in addition to every state he won in 2016. Trump becoming President is almost entirely due to the disgust at the Left.

Oliver tends to go after Democrats as well and always makes a point to be fair to Republicans when his message is opposing their party. "To be fair" probably comes out of his mouth twice per piece.
He recently did a piece on how New York and the North at large have the most racist schools while the South tends to be the least.

I tried to watch once, but his teeth and nose are too distracting.
Posted on 2/12/17 at 5:58 pm to OMLandshark
I've heard both Sam Harris and Bill Maher rant about it, and I'm certainly as annoyed with the SJW whining as they are... but IMHO if the Dems had a candidate that brought out any passion in voters---and make no mistake, HRC wasn't it---we probably aren't having this discussion now.
That said, I agree that if the SJW movement doesn't slow itself down, then 2020 will be a tougher hurdle...

But they did. It was Bernie Sanders. The party and MSM actively rigged it against him. They were craving change as well, but the Democrats got fricked with the coronation of Hillary Clinton by pretty much all of the media and government. Bernie as far as they are concerned was never an option, and Hillary had the nomination locked up since 2012.

Absolutely loved Jon Oliver. Him starting a church...EPIC. Him diving into FIFA..EPIC.
But last year, shite went bonkers. I mean my gosh...just to much. 25 minutes of bashing of Trump, 5 minutes of other stuff. Well, guess what...he won. It comes across as being butthurt now, and worrying about stuff he can't control, and focusing his ratings on the Hillary lovers. I won't watch again until he starts talking about other things around the world again.
