Halle Berry is still #1. A lot of the very best don't work very much:

Pam Grier

Alfre Woodard

CCH Pounder (mostly TV, but really outstanding in everything)

I mean, Whoopi is a great actress. Viola Davis and Gabriel Union could be up there. I wasn't really aware of Thandie Newton before Westworld, but she's really outstanding.

Queen Latifah? She can bring it if the role fits her.

Only one I can name is Halle Berry. So I'd say her.

1st to come to mind then I couldn't think of any others by name. Which is why I made this thread. Thandie Newton is a good one.

Regina King was really good in season 2 of The Leftovers.

Vivica A. Fox was on point in Curb Your Enthusiasm

When talking tier 1 though, it's Halle Berry and then everyone else.

Zoe Saldania, Kerry Washington, Regina King, Ruth Negga. Those are the ones I think of as really good actresses.
