It doesn't matter that Lucas suck at writing dialog, he created the original story. Fan boys like yourself decided that it shouldn't end and made up tons of pointless crap. You took someone's ingenious idea and used it as way to let your promote your lackluster creativity.

Lucas had less to do with that than you think. People had alot of control over Lucas in making the first two films, you know, the good ones. Lucas did have alot of good ideas, but some unbelievably terrible ones too. Fortunately he was surrounded by people who knew what the frick they were doing, but then proceeds to fire almost all of them once he gets full creative control, which led to the clusterfrick called the prequels.

I hope JJ and the writers take a risk and make the next film darker than the first six.

The first one? No. Second? Hell yes.

Exactly what I'd do. I may have Luke pass the torch to our new hero and probably have R2-D2 and C3PO involved, but that's it. I'd jump the story 50 years in the future when the galaxy is at peace, and then some new alien race comes in and screws everything up.

I don't. I'm tempering my expectations.

Well get used to frick no. They have already said the old crew will be back.

I really hope they change their mind. No one wants to see fat Leia or old Han. Old Luke could be great, but not those two.

I expect a departure from the Star Wars universe. Fanboys are not going to be happy because so and so does not follow the same story line in the books.

IMO he did a good job with the Star Trek reboot and I hope he does the same with Star Trek.

I think a better question for a thread is..

If, by any chance, the new Star Wars movies are good, how good will they have to be to satisfy you?

& what if, but probably not, the new ones are better the the Original Trilogy? Would you admit it?

If done right, they could reenergize it for the fanbase which will go see it anyway.

The key is finding the next villain and that will determine if successful or not.

There's plenty of storylines and they can take it in some neat and cool directions but it will be challenging and subject to intense scrutiny.

It's not like the comics where you have all storylines out there.

I'd honestly have him nothing to do with the Sith or even the Force. Perhaps have a villain that's entirely resistant to the Force and wasn't created by it.

To be perfectly honest, no Star Wars movies is actually that great. In fact, I would go so far as to say 1-3 were bad, and 4-6 were mediocre. The best part of Star Wars is the special effects and the fact that it was so wildly different from anything produced before. In the 80s, films like Star Wars were simply never seen and, as a result, going to see a Star Wars was an event like going on a roller coaster ride rather than an event like going to see The Godfather.

Rewatch the movies and you'll see what I'm talking about. Great stories overall, there is no doubt, but they are not executed terribly well, are often hokey, and can meander quite a bit. And that's true of all of them.

People put the first trilogy on a pedestal basically out of nostalgia and reverence for what the films were able to accomplish in the 80s, not because they are 3 of the best films ever made. In fact, I would say the LOTR films are better than the first trilogy, though I think Eps 4-6 are more enjoyable to watch.

So... will the new trilogy suck? Probably. And with JJ Abrams involved, there will likely be some type of time travel involved that makes no sense.

. And here is why, there simply is no story after Episode VI.
Outside of Thrawn, I agree with this. I think there are many movies that can be made within the Star Wars universe that can take place between episodes 1 - 6 and still be awesome.

To sum up, I don't mind seeing more Star Wars movies, I don't expect them to be anything like Ep 4 - 6, and I don't give 2 shits about seeing episodes 7 - 9.

I gained hope when JJ got involved but if they continue the story with Hamil, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, it will be a
complete abomination.

There is no way hamil or fisher is involved.

Hamil is 61, there is no way he could play a 40 year old skywalker. He is an old 61 too.

carrie fisher looks more like jabba than leia now. Again, no way she is involved.

And frick harrison ford is really really really old, plus he would cost a fortune.

My guess is that they recast those characters if they appear. My guess is luke and leia re-appear, han solo is more hit or miss. r2 and c3p0 are all shoeins to reappear.

They have stated the old crew will be signed on for the new movies but I would think they will be limited. I could see Luke with an Obi-Wan type role though.

IMDB has them all listed on the movie, although IMDB is not always correct.

Well, that's actually better that he's older (I kind of wish he was older than he is now actually since he hasn't aged badly at all). Hamill should be merely a supporting role and mentor figure. The movie shouldn't be about him if you know what I'm saying.

Why should they recast? Its only been 30 years since the last one. It seems near the perfect age to have them reappear again, or at least Luke. I'm against Leia and Han appearing, but pro-Luke.

You guys are forgetting another possibility with the inclusion of the "old crew".

Horrible CGI versions of their younger selves, a' la "Tron: Legacy" -Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges doing voice-overs

If there is a God that won't happen.

I read last week where it said no hamil but luke is in it.

I doubt they have much of a script at this point, and I seriously doubt either star has a major role.

But i like fisher playing jabba's son, hell bent on revenge.

It's all bullshite rumors at this point. I've heard Hamill is in it for sure, as well as (unfortunately) Fisher and Ford. Who knows what these days.

I think he looks like shite, at least compared to my parents who are older than he is. I doubt its about Luke though. I guess they could have him as a yoda like character.

Well harrison is the only one who still regularly acts. Fisher looks like jabba the hut, and hamil hasn't aged well imho.

I think recasting makes so much sense, in that you could pick up actors/actresses that are actually good, and would fit the roles.

If its a cameo, sure, no problem if they re-appear but I personally would try to recast.

There have been numerous instances of sequels having different actors/actresses for the same characters. I know star wars fanboys think its different but its not.
