I don't know... His performance was great, but I could see the argument for robin Williams...

Robin Williams was very good in What Dreams May Come

Sharlto Copley should've gotten a Nom. District 9.

Jackie Mason was screwed out of Oscar gold. No way he wasn't the best actor in Caddyshack II.

In 1998, Tom Hanks was nominated for Saving Private Ryan but lost out to Roberto Benigni. Also, Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth) lost out to Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare In Love).

Reese W. - Election
Amy Adams - Junebug
Streep - Devil Wears Prada

Maybe not celebrated, but some of the most convincing characters you will ever find.

Andy Serkis should have gotten it for The Two Towers. People will remember his performance 50 years from now. How many of you can remember Chris Cooper in Adaptation (or even the movie itself) even now?

Tommy Lee Jones won but he probably gave the 4th best performance of the 5 nominees that year. Ralph Fiennes should have won for Schindler's List.

Agreed. A Schindler survivor was on set and started shivering violently in fear seeing Fiennes act on set. That alone should have gotten him the Oscar.

Al Pacino also should have won for Dog Day Afternoon. Lost to Jack Lemmon, I think.

No actors in jaws were even nominated.

Let that sink in.

Meh.

I would say Robert Shaw was the only actor out of the main cast who actually had a chance at a nomination. The biggest travesty that came out of Jaws was the fact that Spielberg wasn't even nominated for Best Director.

inferior performing Denzel Washington

Whoa guy just whoa. Denzel was excellent in Training Day. Brilliance. He made that character just jump off the screen.

as others said, pacino in 'godfather 2' was suspect ... 'shakespeare in love' won best pic over spr ...

the biggest snub imo was martin scorsese for 'raging bull' ... probably for 'taxi driver' as well ... 'raging bull' is a perennial top 5 movie of all time ... i also think duvall not winning for 'the apostle' instead of nicholson for 'as good as it gets' was a snub ... nicholson played an a-hole, which isn't that much of a stretch for him ...

Tom Cruise should have won for Interview with the Vampire.

Paul Newman should have won for Nobody's Fool.

I absolutely agree with others who posted Bill Murray for Lost in Translation and Leo in The Aviatior.

Looking at the Academy Awards list from 1995, there are so many performances worthy of an Oscar that year.
Hanks, Newman, Freeman, Travolta, Cruise, Jackson, Sinise, Pitt, Hopkins. 1995 was stacked

Disagree. The Oscars got it right that year with Daniel Day-Lewis winning for My Left Foot, which some argue is his greatest performance.

And as much as I loved Dead Poet's Society, have to agree as well.

You can also put me down for Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind. What a great performance.
