She was his mom on the show at one time and she has done a lot of TV from 70's until now. More recently she had a small role in BIg Bang Theory where she was a nurse when Howard managed to get his Dick stuck in a robotic arm. Or was it the peanut allergy. I can't remember.

She first became famous as the black female sweathog on Welcome Back Kotter.
