Marvel/superhero movies/comic book movies.

I always say I'm done with superhero movies. I know secretly that I'm not actually done until the Gambit movie is made.

On second thought, this. It's the absolute bottom of the barrel of a movie genre.
Completely agree, but this includes all found footage movies.

Those movies are abysmal.

SO MUCH.

Just Friends is so awesome because it overcomes that.

Parody Movies, anything after or during Scary Movie 1

But these so-called "parody movies" aren't really parodies so much as just ripping off scenes from movie that any retard can get. It's just "hey let's get Iron Man out there and get him crushed by a cow." I just really have to disagree with this choice, since I'd say most of the truly great comedies are parodies. A good parody is more layered than basically any other comedy and you'll get something new each and every time you watch it. They are the bread and butter of basically every comic genius film maker I can think of (save maybe Judd Apatow).

Taking a movie/genre that is familiar to us and then just dissecting on how fricking zany it actually is can make you reevaluate a film/genre as a whole. That is a parody's true job is to make you reassess what movies you loved and to make you look back on them fondly. Simply mocking vampires or having a black guy rape the clown from Poltergeist doesn't do that. A good parody should be a good film on it's own without it's source material, but when you put the source material into the equation, it goes from funny to piss your pants hilarious. If I showed anyone who was unfamiliar with a genre or very specific movie scenes in ______ Movie, then no one would laugh. True parody movies are still fricking hilarious.

I mean seriously, look at this line-up:

Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
The Quest for the Holy Grail
The Life of Bryan
Airplane!
Spaceballs
The Naked Gun
Austin Powers
Walk Hard
Hot Shots
The Princess Bride
This is Spinal Tap
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
The World's End
Team America: World Police

Seriously, try and produce a better comedic list than this that doesn't have a parody in it? This is a fantastic genre that is often done correctly.

This is really only specific to the Friedberg/Seltzer team that put out such masterpieces as Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Vampires Suck, and Meet the Spartans. There are plenty of great movies in this genre.

Every one of those movies is fantastic. I'm referring to the crap like Date Movie, Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, Vampires Suck, and the such. Basically if it doesn't involve Leslie Nielsen, Mel Brooks, Monty Python, Christopher Guest, Rob Reiner, Simon Pegg, or Trey Parker and Matt Stone I don't really care for them.

Exactly. I can't think of too many legitimately awful parody movies in which that group didn't have something to do with it. Parody movies are made with love, and it's usually clear that the film makers are obsessed with the movies they're making fun of. T

hose guys don't give a frick or know anything about the movies they are parodying. The "I am Iron Man" joke where he's crushed by a cow may be the single worst joke I've ever seen, and it's clear they've never seen the movie in order to make such a stupid fricking joke. I mean, you've got Tony Stark, who is a gold mine for parodying, and you just have him crushed by a cow?

If you watch a bunch of mindless action movies, then you'll get that there's a new joke made every 3 seconds in reference to some other movie in this clip from Hot Fuzz, but even you don't get every reference, it's still funny as frick: LINK

I don't really hate any genres. The best from any genre is probably worth watching. I do probably watch musicals the least, but I in particular wouldn't mind going to see one live.

Really just take this group out of parody movies, then it's still a solid genre. Take out one or two horror directors, as well as romcoms, and it's still got some very shitty choices.

I've been a fan of the Wayans family since I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, another parody movie. I've enjoyed most of their work. It seems like Keenan has most of the talent in that family though.

I think you may have swayed my opinion. I've liked maybe two romcoms and they were all with John Cusack. High Fidelity and Say Anything. I hate to put High Fidelity in that category but that is exactly what it is.
