The movie? I have it in my collection but the audience rating on RT has pushed it toward the back of the line.

Vampire Chronicles in chronological order....which suspiciously aren't written in Chronological order even though they are chronicles.

Definitely worth the watch. Wish they'd get on making the sequel.

... A mini-series?

I think that may be a subset of it. But I did a little looking and the term I may have been searching for is serial as contrasted with episodic shows.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack, back to the ongoing discussion.

Anything Charlemagne.

He is mostly responsible for all western European history since his time.

There's action in it, yes, but it is a biographical movie probably first and foremost. It tells the tale of the rise of Temujin to become Genghis Khan.

Is it pretty heavy on the absolutely intolerablely brutal way he invaded and destroyed anything and anyone in his path? Because if not it isn't accurate.

No. It is prior to that. It is about the unification of the clans and his struggle after the death of his father. It is not entirely historically accurate, but it nevertheless does a very good job of highlighting his transformative childhood experiences and development as a man.

The sequels should be more about his invasion of the Tanguts and Chinese

If any of you are interested in Genghis Khan, listen to the Hardcore History podcasts about the Mongol Empire. Absolutely amazing.

Genghis Khan and Mongol Empire

Pretty sure this is the book I read on Genghis (Chinggis) Khan. Pretty eye opening.

Dude could whip some arse. Seriously, check out that podcast. It's about 8.5 hours of audio content.

I got one book on the Mongols from the goodwill-type store but I don't know what it's called.

I completely agree. The original trilogy is what really got me into the genre back in middle school. I remember sneaking my older brother's copy of Dragons of Autumn Twilight into my desk and trying to read in class.

The cartoon was OK, but a real life CG version could be very successful if properly executed. Kitiara, Laurana and Goldmoon...me likey.

I think Cornwell's Lords of the North series would translate well, but it might be too similar to Vikings to make right now. His Nicholas Hook series would be epic. I'd love to see that made.

I just finished the second book in Brandon Sanderson's Shardblade series, and while I thoroughly enjoyed the book, they'd have to sex it up to appeal to wider audiences. I'd like to see some storm light infused action on TV though.

If you like Ghengis Khan, I highly recommend the Conqueror series by Conn Iggulden. A very fast paced and gritty read from Khan's childhood through his rise to the most powerful man in the world. Gives a good appreciation for how hard those people lived, and why they were able to do what they did.

Wilbur Smith's accounts of action and adventure in Africa would translate well.

Michael Curtis Ford's The Last King would be epic.

Wheel of Time absolutely blows. One of the slowest series of books I've ever read. And people want to turn that into a Series? Holy Yawnfest Batman.

I'd like to see Dune 1-6 done right or Malazan Book of the Fallen personally.

Yes, it was recently on Netflix. Not a series, just a standalone movie of the first book.
