They made 4 movies based on Clancy novels and made $800,000,000 on them.

$200 mil per.

I have my problems with the movies that were made, especially how far from the book they went with The Sum of All fears for candy arse political reasons, but on balance it was a great franchise and was a money maker.

OK, I answered my own question.

Rainbow 6 is scheduled for release in 2010.

That is the least likely book I imagined being made from Clancy's books.

I can't imagine how bad they are going to hack the book to death because the bad guys in Rainbow 6 are environmentalists. Remember that in the Sum of All Fears they changed the Muslims that nuked the Super Bowl in Denver to neo nazis nuking a random game in Baltimore. No way a Rainbow 6 movie makes environmentalists look evil.

I always thought Without Remorse would be great for a movie even though it is about Clark rather than Jack Ryan.

They are also making Without Remorse, but they have been saying that for years.

Problem is most of his reaming books in the Ryan universe deal with the Soviet Union and the cold war times.

I would love to see those films, but just like they put a current and politically correct spin Sum of All Fears they would probably hack his remaining books to death.

The real question is Where the heck has Clancy been?

It is strange how notorious Clancy films are for supposedly being a lock to be made then in a few years nothing.

I remember a few years ago they supposedly had John Singleton locked in to direct Without Remorse with Joaquin Phoenix playing Clark and nothing came of it.

I heard at one time the next Affleck as Ryan installment was going to be Red Rabbit and nothing came from that.

Clancy writes terrible dialogue and it was evident in this book. Some of the words he attributed to his characters were painful to read.

Red Storm Rising would make a great movie but will never get made. To much going on in that movie so it would cost a ton to make. Plus with the new worldwide politics, I don't see it happening.

Would be an incredible movie....I thought Ben Affleck sank the series with Sum of All Fears...it was terrible. Ford was the man!!

They should make it like the james bond series, and take the plot straight out the book. Going old school soviet movie would be great.

I'd like to see Executive Orders made in to a movie with Ford as Ryan again

+1,000,000

Ben Affleck was fricking horrible in that movie...and that's putting it nicely. The final scene where the guy knew they were getting married only showcases this too well...

Spoiler

Even money is that they drop the motives, and just throw the blame on the big corporate entity whose angle is the profit to be made by selling the vaccine, dropping the infectious aspect of the vaccine from the book as well.
