What detective would you go with - Colombo, Monk or Shawn (from Psych)?

Colombo is one of my favorite shows all time.

Colombo. Would have been much cooler the hang out with.

Shawn along with having photographic memory he also scored perfect on the detective exam at 15. He's legit

They've tried to revive a Columbo type character with "Backstrom" and so far have failed miserably because they apparently don't get the essence of the "common man" Columbo character that made him so appealing which made the series so popular for so long.

Columbo's approach was a common sense one, and his rumpled appearance, and not so refined manners, and seemingly self-effacing style combined to make the "villains" most of the time make the mistake of underestimating his intelligence; that hubris usually led to their "downfall".

It had the "common sense" v "book sense", "egoist v humble", and best of all "the elitist" v "common man" conflict that has traditionally been so appealing but is basically ignored by most TV/Film writer's now, opting instead for shallowness of "pop" culture over depth of character in an individual.

But back to whom should I hire.

Monk is supposed to be this brillant deductive reasoning guy, but his silly jumps, "he's the guy, I don't know how yet" contrary to what is supposed to be his characters approach.
So he basically guesses.

Shawn does the same guessing thing too but with an eidetic memory twist.

But the most irritating than appealing is Monk's OCD+Neuroticism, and Shawn's ADD+ Narcissism.

So Columbo, definitely Columbo.
