What comic/graphic novels are you currently reading?

Some of the absolute best works of fiction I have read have come in the pages of comic books. Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, Brian K. Vaughn, Garth Ennis, Alan Moore...and the list goes on.
I have my series I follow regularly (Saga, Walking Dead) but there are a few I've started reading that are pretty great.
One is Southern Bastards.
Another is a limited series that won the 2014 Eisner Award, The Wake
And the last is Wytches

One is Southern Bastards.
quote:
Welcome to Craw County, Alabama, home of Boss BBQ, the state champion Runnin’ Rebs football team...and more bastards than you’ve ever seen. When you’re an angry old man like Earl Tubb, the only way to survive a place like this...is to carry a really big stick. From the acclaimed team of JASON AARON and JASON LATOUR, the same bastards who brought you Scalped and Wolverine: Japan’s Most Wanted, comes a southern fried crime series that’s like the Dukes of Hazzard meets the Coen Brothers...on meth.
Another is a limited series that won the 2014 Eisner Award, The Wake
quote:
When Marine Biologist Lee Archer is approached by the Department of Homeland Security for help with a new threat, she declines, but quickly realizes they won't take no for an answer. Soon she is plunging to the depths of the Arctic Circle to a secret, underwater oilrig filled with roughnecks and scientists on the brink of an incredible discovery. But when things go horribly wrong, this scientific safe haven will turn into a house of horrors at the bottom of the ocean
And the last is Wytches
quote:
The series follows the Rook family, in particular their daughter Sailor. The family moved to another town following an incident involving their daughter Sailor and a particularly vicious school bully named Annie. During this incident Sailor was attacked and Annie went missing, prompting rumors that Sailor killed her. Eventually the speculation grows to the point where Sailor's father Charlie and mother Lucy decides that the only thing to do is move the family to a neighboring town in the hopes of starting over again. This proves to be unsuccessful as some of the rumors have followed the family and Sailor still feels ostracized from her new school peers. The family is also largely unaware that the town is home to its own supernatural secrets, in particular a tradition where a person will pledge a person to strange beings in the nearby forest in order to gain a boon from them. Sailor soon finds herself confronted by Annie, who was taken by the beings inhabiting the forest but sent back to finish her attack.

Read the first couple of volumes of Hellblazer earlier this summer.
Already finished again, but every late Spring I seem to be drawn toward re-reading the entire run of Swamp Thing written by Alan Moore. It's visually stunning and Moore just does his thing as a writer.
Other than that, I'll pick up Sandman every now and then. Kind of want to re-read Watchmen since it's been about 10 year since I last opened it. Same for From Hell, though that one is a bit more of a chore to get through.

I'm on Volume 2 right now. For some reason it is taking me a while to get into this one. Thought it would grab me quicker than it has.

One of my absolute favorites. Alan Moore makes me not want to write. He is a genius with words.

A tough read, but another of my favorites. Especially the second read-through

Finished Old Man Logan (amazing) and reading Civil War again.

If you like Jason Aaron check out his Thors series that just started. Its Thor meets the Wire and its pretty damn good so far.
You cant go wrong with Scott Snyder's run on Batman. I would start from the start of his run. he does a great job building from one arc to the next.

Wicked + Divine (great concept, occasionally fails in execution, but I'd rather a comic be ambitious than play it safe)
The Fade Out (which is amazing... if you have any interest in old Hollywood, you should totally check it out, it's like a film noir of the 50s studio system)
Ms Marvel (probably the best superhero comic in a decade... the art is an acquired taste, but the comic is what Spider-Man thinks it is)

I enjoyed the Court of Owls books, but I missed quite a bit before the Death of the Family collection. Right now I'm re-reading Watchmen, as well as finally starting The Walking Dead.

Fight Club 2 just started as well. Seems interesting but its only been one issue thus far.

Currently reading Magneto and The Walking Dead.
Just finished Flags of Our Fathers (Black Panther/Captain America). Plan on reading Doom's War soon.
Wake looks interesting and so does Wytches. Might give those a try.

I am so disappointed in you, Ms Marvel is clearly an homage to early Spider-Man.

Ranx 1 ( Ranx in New York) By Liberatore & Tamburini. It's and old Heavy Metal comic. Great so far.

Of course its an homage to early Spider-Man. But Peter Parker was only a high schools student for something like 20 issues. They moved on real quickly, despite that sort of being the identity of the book, even 50 years later (SEE every movie, which tries to reboot Peter as an awkward teen).
Ms. Marvel is actually DOING it, and staying in the time period. It's the closest we've had to Spider-Man since the early Lee/Kirby run, which I'm willing to be none of us was alive for. It's awesome to read it as it's happening.

Recently finished XO Manowar, really good graphic novel.

I've never read a graphic novel or a comic before, but I picked up Fables after finishing The Wolf Among Us. See if I like the genre.

Agreed. So dark and well written. I actually sold all my copies on eBay for a nice amount of money considering I paid cover price for all of them.

I have a ton of Batman graphic novels and stand-alones, but not this one. Thank you!

I'm enjoying Southern Bastards and I loved The Wake. I'd like to see a movie made from The Wake.
I'm currently reading Aquaman, Ant-Man, Howard the Duck and East of West as well. Liking all of them.
