'Westworld' not yet renewed for Season 2 as ratings continue to go down

Here's the linking article about it.

I did not know the rating weren't great...I figured with as much buzz as this board devotes to the show, it would be a huge hit right now, but apparently the show is too complex for a lot of viewers and they're tired of not knowing anything.
I could really see the new generation of tv viewers not putting up with being strung along and knowing zero about what's really going on. This is not Network TV and Lost circa 2004. Too many instant gratification options now on Netflix where you can find out the mysteries of a show in a day or two.
Here's another article about Westworld being too mysterious and too cryptic.

"#Westworld" is a complex HBO series that is telling multiple stories as well as unfolding a huge mystery all at the same time. Some fans of the show have really dove right in and tried to figure out the puzzle that is obviously evolving within the series. Others seem to have nodded off, clearly not interested in looking for deeper meaning, which seems to be the heart of the first season of "Westworld."
Why isn't 'Westworld' a much bigger hit?
It seems that "Westworld" should be a much bigger hit and as a fan, I have recommended the HBO series to many others. Some loved it while others just didn't get what was so exciting about it. On the surface, "Westworld" is just another western but with HBO's touch of sex and violence. Below the surface is a truly intricate story that hasn't even been fully figured out yet, laced with many lessons about reality that have been woven into a story about artificial intelligence as it becomes self-aware. While the show is compelling and complex, it hasn't seemed to pick up a large viewership like it really deserves. Due to that, HBO still hasn't picked "Westworld" up for Season 2 although they say the chances are good that it will happen. Hopefully when the intricate plot unravels and fans can see the whole story they are trying to tell, many will jump on the "Westworld" bandwagon and spend some time marathoning Season 1 in order to catch up. It does seem like a great show to spend some time watching straight through because there are so many clues laid out from episode to episode that help viewers to understand what is really going on. Will 'Westworld' ratings go up when the mystery is solved? Ratings for "Westworld" are actually decreasing since the episode 3 high, with viewers dropping off each week. Is this because viewers don't like the show or because they just don't get it? It's safe to say that once they understand the huge plot twist that is playing out right before fans' eyes, many may come back and revisit the show. At least we an hope that is the case because a Season 2 of "Westworld" would be really great.
"Westworld" creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have at least five seasons planned out for the HBO show. It would be a real disappointment if they couldn't even get past the first one with some a great concept. There is so much depth that new clues emerge every time I rewatch an episode. Beyond the sex and violence of an expensive video game where the player can do literally whatever they please, there is a message about the way that video games can desensitize the player as well as the warning about artificial intelligence and what androids can do when they realize that they aren't human. "Westworld" is easily one of the most complex and interesting new shows on TV whether it is getting huge ratings or not. Let's just hope that Season 2 does happen and we can continue learning about the futuristic theme park and all it has to offer.

I really don't know why it costs them so much to make it anyway. I hope this doesnt wind up like Firefly with tons of cult fans praying 20 years for season 2. :(

those hosts are expensive, especially when they're getting killed every episode

Honestly I lost hope after The Brink got cancelled

Do you have any idea what it costs to make all those costumes, props, extras and shoot on location in the middle of nowhere....plus pay all the designers, builders, truck drivers etc who are also all union workers. Add that to big name actors, writers, and directors. It's an incredible amount of money to make a show or movie like this.

Better start clearing some things up so people can get hooked.

All the good shows die young

Some of the reviewers are starting to complain about it being too confusing with little resolution

I consider myself not a dumbass, and I'm finding the show to be pretty meh so far.

I stopped after the first one. I loved the original film too. Just a big ball of meh.

It's not a bad show but it's not holding my interest like I thought it would after the first episode. It has kind of been a disapointment. I can already tell it's not gonna grab America's attention in any large way.
I'm finding myself pretty bored during a lot of the episodes, and I usually have a pretty high threshold for "slow" shows

Me too. both my wife and I, my parents, and my friend who all watch it have said the same thing.
It has a brilliant cast, but the storyline is all over the place. i just dont think its very catchy.
some on here say its some of the greatest TV ever. I strongly disagree. Its not one of HBO's best in recent memory

I'd imagine the cast contributes significantly to the budget.

Yeah, I just don't care what happens. I stopped after the 3rd or 4th episode and really can't remember what all had happened so far. There really isn't any tension or suspense. The people visiting can't be hurt and the sex/violence isn't that spectacular. The people in charge of the park just aren't interesting and way too self-involved. It's just not a good show.
I can't believe they don't understand why their ratings went down. TWD is back on. Isn't it the number 1 show on tv? They had to know that was going to kill the ratings..

I quit watching it and I was a huge fan of Lost and love shows that make you think and keep you guessing. This one was just too boring and didn't do anything in the first two episodes to make me care about what happened going forward. I didn't need any questions answered because the questions were not interesting.

I swear to God if they cancel this show
Posted on 11/6/16 at 8:52 pm to Jack Ruby
HBO is canceling shite left and right.

yep, not to get too much into it, but my buddies i know and deal with at HBO said they are under a ton of pressure right now because of the boom with Netflix, Amazon, Hula, etc, plus their parent company Time Warner is being bought out by AT&T, and HBO is the prized possession of the deal(along with WB), so the execs have a very short leash with everything.
