But...George Clooney puts out #savedafour or some shite and he's considered Ghandi.

Schindler's List

I really need to watch this.

I tried watching it in high school and just got massively bored with it. Which is weird considering how much I love history (especially WWII).

Sorry for being political here but Liam has disappointed me with his recent remarks bashing America for being pro guns and him wanting a gun ban or whatever.. For someone who makes movies like Taken where bad guys use guns illegally.. Or where bad guys use guns in Schindlers list against unarmed people.. You'd think, he of all people, would be for people protecting themselves against evil..

Again, sorry for the rant. Back to Schindler's list.. When I finally got around to watching it I didn't understand all the hype or high praise for it as being such a top movie.. But then I noticed for the next several days I could not stop thinking about it.. I then realized just how impactful and well-done it was.

The red coat still pops into my head from time to time. More than 20 years later. Haunting movie. Should be mandatory in schools.

The foreshadowing was obvious, not nuanced or subtle.

Like, HEY WE ARE DOING FORESHADOWING, the girl in the red coat's going to die.

Still, that image does stay with you. Everyone I know who's seen Schindler's list always remembers the girl in the red coat.

The film has been shown in schools, not mandatory of course, and I doubt with the current political environment it is shown as frequently as in older days, but, yeah, it is a film that should be shown.

Yeah, true, you have to overlook the stupidity of the actor who plays the main character. It would not be the first time an actor is a clueless hypocrite regarding films, acting roles and real life.

Happens all the time, in order to be an actor, you have to have a decent memory, and be willing to play pretend.
You don't have to possess intelligence, or any meaningful understanding of any of the topics of the roles you play. In short one can be a complete dumbass as long that dumbass can halfass remember lines, and can take direction.

Yes, it is a must-see film. It is a well done, well acted, very powerful movie (and on my own Top 5 list of all time). The book is every bit as good as the movie, BTW.

I've never seen it, not sure I want to

The film has so many elements in it about human nature and is presented fairly objectively.

For example, the role of the commandant of the concentration camp, you understand this guy, you see someone who maybe a borderline guy morally, mentally, and maybe never cross the line he does cross if he didn't have absolute power.
You see the absolute power he has corrupt him absolutely.
You see his inner conflicts from his own desires and outward obedience to National Socialism ideals that drive him to insanity.

And that just one character.

You see within this "political system" corruption. Even within National Socialism the conflict of how things should be, and how things are.

You see corruption even among the victims of the National Socialist.

The difference in this and other films is that NONE of the characters become a caricature of who they are, or of good and evil, they remain human.
You understand these characters and the why and what that they do.
All of the characters as people do, change within the conditions they are in, some of their making, others not. But it exposes the nature of humans throughout, the flaws, the strengths, the frailties, the desires, etc.

Definitely recommend seeing it.

I might have lost IQ points after reading that. I mean, this is poliboard-quality ignorance.

Follow it up with "Inglorious Basterds".

Although I would say the roles for the most part are well acted as the caricatures written, that's the basis of my criticism which is this is a film of caricatures presented in an alternate reality relating to historical events.

There are realistic scenes, but much of the movie is unrealistic, its more how one would like this time to have been, how one would like events to have taken place, and the characters are caricatures of symbols that are to represent players in this drama.

Seriously?

Are like 18, or VERY young?

I find this hard to believe.

It's very easy.

All you have to do is de-humanize.

The same thing goes for slavery.

The instant you don't consider someone to be a fellow human being, you can be capable of anything.

Perhaps there will be a film, maybe like Hotel Rwanda followed the 1994 Rwanda massacre.
Showing that the the U.N. did NOTHING to intervene though they were there.
And that the U.S. under then President Bill Clinton did nothing to intervene as well.

Maybe there will be ISIS, The Movie at some point.

Well, it's apparent that the only atrocities comparable to the Holocaust are your posts in this thread.

I was responding to a post about Liam Neeson, the actor.
And you had the option not to respond, but since you did; understand the quote that Meryl Streep made concerning people not understanding that just because an actor plays a doctor, no one should go to that actor for advise on medical issues, because they just pretend to be a doctor, it doesn't mean that actor is a doctor.

9 million people dead, another 2 million dead across Europe.
and that compares to posting something you don't like.

Apparently you don't possess enough IQ points that would allow you to understand this difference, and that's not my fault.
