On the live run I watched I think the first 3ish seasons and for whatever reason I fell off. Then in the last seasons I caught them here and there live and some in reruns. I guess my point is that I'd seen a lot of eps, but am just now sitting down and running straight through the whole series and am now on season 5.

We can lavish praise on this show all day, and it'd be warranted. But one thing that really struck me on this run through was how much of a 180 I've done on April. I feel like when we're first introduced to her it's like "oh she's so quirky and weird and dark, yet still funny, and has a good heart for those close to her!" Well...now I think she's just a bitch. And not a very smart one at that. I realize it's just a TV show and doesnt' represent reality, but some of things she's done would be enough to catch hell IRL. Notable examples just from the past 2 episodes are her putting up the cartoon drawings of Ben in Ben's office in DC (the frickin assistant, with no training in that field [why was she picked to be his intern anyway? Her and Andy would be the last logical choices], is going to undermine the boss in front of the entire office?), her making fun of a congressional hopeful to his face (Ben's boss), yelling and causing a scene during a city council investigation, etc. It's not really funny anymore IMO, and makes her one of my most least likeable on the show.

I know that was long and rambling but I'm trying to put off working for a little longer and I was thinking about this. Also on another note, in the real world Ron obviously would have been fired long, long ago. Actually, it seems like most of the department besides leslie and jerry would have gotten the axe by now.

Hey I'm currently doing a rewatch myself. I'm on season 6 though so I'm almost done. April gets back to her normal self then. D.C. April was a county April.

The yelling asshat guy from Billy on the street made the show unwatchable for me. I still haven't been able to finish it.

I believe as of now we've only seen that turd in like 1 episode, when they have the youth panel in to generate ideas. I do know that he comes back for an expanded role, and I'm dreading it. He was the worst. The wooooooooooorst (in my jean ralphio singing voice). But seriously the worst.

Ron Swanson is the greatest character ever created on any show ever. And to assume incompetence, even intentional incompetence, would get you fired from a government job is just silly.

I LOVE ron, there's simply nothing unlikeable about him. I'm talking about if this was real life though.

Well, that's simply not true. I've seen it happen. And I've never implied ron is incompetent, far from it. He's unbelievably competent.

I'm just saying that in any real word scenario, the director of that agency, even with having a leslie, can't just seal off in an office, not do any work, disregard the public, and stay employed. The city manager and council wouldn't accept it. There was an episode a few ago that I watched where chris finally said something like "I like you, but you really need to get a handle on your department. Do a project" (which btw isn't realistic either). So their project is improving the water fountains. The entire office turned into a shitshow and everything was drenched from a water fight. That'd be a big deal. Then at the end they improve the water fountains (just took the mouthguards off) and everything is great! Good job ron you did it! That's just now how things work in reality.

AGain I'm not talking crap about ron, because i love ron. Just pointing out he wouldn't stay as director for that many years without actually doing anything. And certainly wouldn't be up for assistant city manager.

she is pretty damn unlikeable. If she was a disgusting fatbody you wouldn't like her. She's attractive sure, but up until the last like 10 episodes she's been worthless to the department and has intentionally made things more difficult for those around her.

oh please. Leslie is a saint.

Pretty irrelevant. I don't like fatties

She is a perfect microcosm of the "WE MUST TELL EVERYONE WHAT THEY CAN DO AND THINK" level of thinking. She hates personal choice and will go to absurd lengths to block people from what they want to do

I don't know how far you've gotten into it yet, but she gets SOOO much worse.

I gotta disagree there, while admitting I have 2 seasons to go.

Leslie is pretty up front about what she personally wants, but there have been countless times where she has an internal struggle due to multiple parties wanting different things. How many public forums have they hosted where everyone wants somethign different and she has to come to a compromise to appease everyone?

And even if she does feel like she knows best for others, I don't think there's any doubt that she cares an unbelievable amoutn for everyone, truly. All the nice birthday celebrations, the thoughtful gifts, the parties she throws for people...she genuinely cares about the wellbeing of everyone close to her.

That is the opposite from April, who for 4.5 seasons probably wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

They're all caricatures of what they represent, just like the town is, the local government is, etc.

That's why we all love Ron so much, he has the hyper masculine positions & qualities we all want.

Yeah I can see that. Pretty much all of their personalities are are on steroids, that's cool. My belief is just that April's personality (up until about the last 15ish episodes) has been absolutely disgusting and not only was she not a good person, there's no way she would be allowed to "work" in that setting without having been reprimanded or fired long ago.

I'm towards the end of season 5.

I too started hating April around DC April. And perhaps another unpopular opinion - I think Andy is really lame. He's never funny. At most, he serves as that guy in the office who says dumb shite that no one laughs at.

If I'm thinking about real life, Andy is the real Jerry of the group. At least they make fun of Larry, which means they actually notice him and have some amount of care for him. They would say, "I could care less about Larry," but I think they would say, "I couldn't care less about Andy."

It was before DC, but she was almost unberaable there and it made me think back on her in earlier seasons.

Just a few eps ago, Leslie is gone and April has to lead a public forum. She wears Leslie's clothes to try to put on a good appearance...hey that's good! Then after it's over she burns leslie's clothes...in a trashcan in the courtyard of city hall. I mean you can't do that. It's not even funny, it made me feel bad for leslie and really dislike April.

This is where I leave you. Andy by far produces the most laugh out loud moments to me. Ron is my favorite but Andy is hilarious.

Eeehhhhhhh I see where you're coming from but don't fully agree. He almost seems functionally retarded, but some of his stuff is funny. I don't think anybody could really live life that competently that long being that dumb though.
