I loved that movie so much as a kid. I found some parts of it actually kinda scary/creepy.

Gene Wilder said the only disagreement him and Mel Brooks EVER had was over the Putting on the Ritz scene. Gene wrote it, Mel didn't like it. Gene fought for 15 minutes so vigorously in favor of including it, Brooks figured if he was that passionate, it had to be a good idea.

Putting on the Ritz scene

The first time I watched Young Frankenstein and saw this scene I could not stop laughing. Peter Boyle was amazing, how they shot this without laughing every time I'll never know.

Gary Cooper

SUPER DUPER!

Interesting. I'm with Brooks on this one. It was my least favorite scene in the movie.

I think you have to look at it in context - most of the folks acting back then were generally pretty talented across the board - they had to be to get noticed coming out of live theater where variety was king. Recall YF was Gene's idea in the first place - a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein that didn't want anything to do with all of that, but gets pulled in anyway. Also, the image of the monster doing a song and dance is pretty funny. I wasn't crazy about it when I was younger, but I get it now - I get what Gene was trying to do.

And Boyle is the reason it works. He gets little credit for the film's success but he nails every scene. Of course, that movie in 80% Gene Wilder - yet another film he is in almost every frame - but the supporting cast is one of the best for any comedy film - ever.

"You know, I'll never forget my old dad, when these things used to happen to him. The things he'd say to me."
"...Well what did he say?"
"What the hell are you doing in the bathroom all day and night?! Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?!"

Marty Feldman as Igor might be the best casting ever in the history of film.
