Was there a time when the M/TV Board was mostly free of dedicated trollers?

Seems like I remember that a few years ago this board was one of the few that was mostly free of heavy trolling. I always found it was a good place to take a break from the B.S. on most of the other boards when it got tiresome.

But of course it may be just selective memory. Kind of an electronic version of "You kids. When I was your age ..."

Yeah, and it doesn't seem like it was that long ago. Gamecockalum was one of the few.

We had a few good posters that don't post anymore too.

Dan - I think he was the only troll, but we treated him so nice!

I don't think there are that many trolls that the OP is thinking off, maybe some mis-assigned as trolls.

The problem with this board is that any variance from the consensus is treated as a troll. There is a groupthink mentality that goes out of its way to try and punish those not conforming to the accepted opinion of what movie is good and what isn't.

+1 Yep, there's a lot of that. I've been called a troll simply because I don't think the Marvel films are all the great.

I think it's more of how certain posters express their opinions. There's a way to disagree and have a tasteful argument on something as subjective as movie preferences.

I concede there is a certain amount of group think on some things. But I never saw it as a major problem.

There has been plenty of spirited debate - on everything from "movies we agree don't suck" to whether Dottie dropped the damned ball on purpose to comic book villains (and heroes). But the disagreements by and large seemed organic. People made sometimes passionate but usually coherent and respectful arguments in support of their positions.

Now there is more of what sure seems like stances taken just to agitate or get reactions out of people. Of course they would never agree that's what they're doing but its kind of easy to spot after years on message boards.

From what I can remember Freauxzen and Baloo are good posters, but aren't always agreeable with everyone. It's not what you say it's how you say it.
I wanted to like 2001 on re-watch but didn't, I'm not going to argue if other people like it.

If I remember right you're one of the ones, like blueboy that just like to argue points and punch holes in things. For example if you really want to bitch don't say things like ESB is like Days of our lives. In general yeah it's a space soap opera but c'mon man that's pretty weak.

This place did put me on to some good Netflix shows.

Comic movie treads tend to have more perceived trolling when I think it is more a matter that those movies have a higher fanboyism.

Star Wars have ramped it up, so I have avoided some of those threads, but again that is a big fanboy movie.

I don't think trolling here is near the level as other boards.

Trolling not bad here. It's just that some people have retarded opinions

I can agree with that. Just hope the jog in that direction is a temporary thing and not a general movement.

so this is just about star wars, then?

come on

just because people called out star wars for its major flaws and reacted to fanboys basically lying to "push back" and ensure their emotions weren't disrupted, doesn't mean there is any "Trolling" going on whatsoever

i swear the emotional thinking supporting that star wars movie has reached the most insane levels

I was thinking about him the other day. Anyone on the board know him IRL? Just wondering if he's doing alright. I know he has some health issues, or he had them in the past

Nah. It all started with the first season of True Detective.

(Just kidding).

TD is actually another great example of both themes of this thread

it had the same kind of reactions (on both sides) to the crap ending

it had the same emotional response, including a "bait and switch" argument being central to the argument, of those who were too invested

Knew that one would get you. (dang, I think I just crossed over into troll territory myself). Not to worry - I don't think anything constructive would come from throwing out names of posters but you were not one I was thinking of in the OP.
