It’s still not clear what shape the project will take, but sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. is in the early stages of developing a relaunch of The Matrix, the iconic 1999 sci-fi movie that is considered one of the most original films in cinematic history, with Zak Penn in talks to write a treatment.

Sources say there is potential interest in Michael B. Jordan to star, but much must be done before the project is ready to go.

They'll never be able to top the original.

Umm, why? Give me a break, the material isn't even 20 years old yet.

They need to start by rebooting Reloaded and Revolutions.

Instead of a reboot,

If they wanted to maybe make a film or trilogy focusing on another era of "the one" that may take place hundreds of years in the future or the past,

I would be open to something like that.

Or they should have just combined them. There's so much filler in those movies that it gives the Hobbit trilogy a run for its money. Seriously why not have the freeway scene happen while Neo is talking to the Architect? That easily cuts the movie well by half, and then don't worry about the first half of Revolutions where they do a fetch quest to get back Neo. Seriously you can remove 2 hours easily without changing really anything.

There's a good movie buried in those two somewhere, it just went so overboard. The Battle of Zion was just boring as hell.

if Brandon Lee had been alive, that series would have been his bitch.

Eta

The original series

But that would take real creativity and skill. Much easier to create a bullshite cash grab.

I don't understand the Michael B Jordan love. He's an average actor with absolutely zero charisma. Is it basically because he's the only halfway marketable young black actor now?

Hell dust off Will Smith or go get John Boyega or something. At least he has some screen presence and charm.

It wasn't original. It stole its plot from another movie.

Because he made us all feel really bad about Bodie and Poot killing him and the guilt we all feel makes people hire him for other roles.

I don't think it's a remake. There was talk a year ago that the Wachowski things were writing a script for a trilogy sequel.
