Does anyone else see in Ledger's Joker a bit of Kilmer's Doc Holliday? They're clearly different characters played by very different men, but I can't help but think of the Joker now that I'm watching Tombstone. Something about the way Kilmer's performance seems so nonchalant and echoes in scenes that ledger did as the Joker.

Am I crazy? I probably am.

Not sure I see it but Kilmers Holiday is a top 5 movie character ever for me. God he nailed that role.

Ledger played his role with a bit more twisted humor to it well because it is the Joker imo, but Val was funny as hell also. But the Academy not giving him the Oscar was the biggest ripoff ever. Hell, what am I talking about, I just remembered they didn't even nominate him for an Oscar for that incredible Tombstone role. Talk about nuts and a injustice!

They gave the Oscar to Tommy Lee Jones in his Fugitive role, he was funny and played the role well, but that shite pales in comparison to what Val Kilmer did in Tombstone. And to not even nominate him is an absolute travesty! Lol

It appears that you left out Nick Rivers. I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you were in a rush when you made this post.

If it hadn't been in a supposed Western I could probably have tolerated this.

But it lead to Jack Sparrow and the destruction of the naval warfare/ pirate genre. So double no.

They both played controlled psychopaths... Doc was just a way way tamer version, but he was a stone cold killer with a crazy streak... He lusted after blood and taking on death.

By the way... Did anybody watch the Spike TV Heath Ledger documentary last week?

He apparently wasn't that crazy during playing the role. In fact, he loved it... He loved playing the character he had created and would break character all the time.

Apparently one of his friends didn't understand why he took on a role made so famous and so synomous with Jack Nicholson. Then apparently Ledger said "watch this" and went on to perform the "wanna know I got these scars" monologue and floored his buddy. Then he said not to tell anybody.

Ledger could turn it on in an instant and them turn it off and just be Heath.

They said he used to sit around set all the time watching Nolan direct and talked regular and acted like normal Heath Ledger... Then as soon as it was take time... Boom, here comes the Joker.

Should be a lesson next time you hear stories about smug actors like Daniel Day Lewis or James Franco never breaking character... If you know the character well enough and are good enough of an actor... You don't have to do that kind of stuff.

Apparently Nicholson was the same way... He would just sit around and talk Lakers and other stuff then turn it on for the cameras.

I get what you're saying, but DDL gave us Bill the Butcher, and for that, we should all be perpetually grateful.

The makeup artists on both deserve some love.

Never seen a more sweaty, clammy, pale, tuburculosis-ridden gunsmith than Kilmer as Holiday.

I can agree that both characters displayed All-Pro levels of swag/confidence/charisma.

People gravitated towards them, despite their lone-ranger/lone-wolf personas. Women/law-abiders to Holliday; criminals to the Joker.

They both showed poise/smoothness/control in turbulent/volatile/confrontational scenes.

They were both elitely skilled in violence, and knew it....which undoubtedly begat all the confidence and control.

Legers Joker always reminded me of Gibson's Martin Riggs in the Original Lethal Weapon.

Legers performance as the Joker always make me think back to Gibson as Riggs when he says "You Want To Jump? Fine Let's Jump".
