Kurt was Disney's big adolescent star of their live action 60s and 70s stuff, and before that was in children's television. His father was Bing Russell (Deputy Foster on Bonanza). Russell played AA ball and might have made a career of it before injuring his shoulder.
And, although he has no formal directing credits, he has almost 100 acting credits on IMDB. I suspect if you had to press an actor into directing, you could do worse than Kurt Russell.
This reminds me of the story of the first Iron Man film. They started filming before the script was completed. So, Downey and Bridges ended up writing (uncredited) much of their own dialogue. The Dude describes it as "a 200 million dollar student film."

"Kurt Russell" was one of the names on the short list of projects found on Walt Disney's desk when he died. There's an old rumor that Walt's last words were "Kurt Russell", but that's been debunked. But Walt was big on Russell, and the Disney company kept him working through the 70's.
Walt used to grab young Kurt off of movie sets and bring him in to get a young person's opinion of films that were being edited.

Kurt Russel is the last of the great old school movie stars. We won't see his like again in Hollywood.

I saw some material on youtube that explained these Victorian slang terms.
The Daisy evoked perfection. When Doc Holiday said, “You’re a daisy if you do,” and “You’re no daisy at all,” he was saying 1. that if the Clanton guy shot him that would be perfection. And 2. When he shot Johnny Ringo, Ringo was obviously not very perfect being shot through the head.
The Huckleberry evoked a wild streak or a wild person. That is what it meant when Doc said, “I’m your huckleberry.” He was willing to fight.

Actually, De Kelley was playing Dr. McCoy, who for purposes of the episode was Tom McLowery.

Having grown up w/the Disney channel I will always know him as the strongest man in the world.

seems the reference is important because in the second interaction between the two is where Ringo wanted to play for blood and Holliday said, "I am your huckleberry" the first time.

In a true moment of "art imitates life", the real Wyatt Earp spent his later years as a consultant for Hollywood on western films. They sought his opinion on authenticity of gunfights, horse riding, cowboy mannerisms, etc.
Kurt should make another movie starring as Wyatt in that capacity.
