So if he becomes GL, what will the story be centered around? Him flying around the hood, saving the ghetto from drug dealers? Or will he battle the Mobile leprechaun?

It won't be just him, DC announced it's going to be a green lantern corps. Chris Pine is the favorite to land the role of Hal Jordan.

Thinking about it, maybe Tyrese can bring in some fun to the JL and try to appease the more "light-hearted" or "fun" comic fan. It may be exactly what this thing needs to balance out.
Isn't that what happened in the last GL movie with Reynolds?

The problem is that it was an attempt at being "light-hearted" and "fun" and it was neither. It was a steaming pile of shite. It is possible to make a comic movie that it "light-hearted" and "fun" without it being a steaming pile of shite.

If he can swing that a little towards stoic Stewart, it will be alright.

This is my concern with Tyrese playing John Stewart. Stewart is the stoic GL. I don't recall ever seeing Tyrese play a stoic character, and I have my doubts that he can pull it off.

And what they'll probably do is make Jonathan Stewart a wise cracking, funny guy.

So we are basically getting a black Hal Jordan? Why can't we get a true John Stewart?

So, here's my take. I like dark and serious comics. I'm not necessarily a fan of realistic takes, but dark, serious, yes. I love Batman. I was concerned when I saw some of the photos on the Suicide Squad set that they were going to make that movie a little too wacky for my taste. Then I saw the trailer and I was relieved, because it looks fricking right up my alley. Some people are pissed with DC for being too dark and serious with superheroes and want more light and playful comic movies. I like Jonathan Stewart GL. I fear that they are going to try to make some of these heroes light and playful just to appease some of these fans. With this casting, my fear may be realized. We shall see, but we mostly know what we get from Tyrese.

Since this title Green Lantern Corps, I imagine we get at least 3 of the most notable Earth GLs....John(for the record)Stewart is obvious because studios need a black lead in 2015.

I could see Hal Jordan in there as well, but Guy Gardner would be awesome too.

Kyle Rayner (half Latino) is a safe bet.

A female GL will also be in the mix(probably alien, but could be Power Ring)

Simon Baz as a masked vigilante Islamic GL is a longshot, but would be cool.

I also like the idea of Hal already being "dead".

Of Course, they can make the GLC a team like Guardians and have Kilowog or even G'Nort as central characters in order to push more toys.

I love the MCU and are excited about the DCCU but merchandising will always play some factor in these types of movies.

Hell, they've turned the Falcon into Captain America in the comics (and upcoming games) and they dont even have to make new toys.

Finally, WB should absolutely be introducing all of the color Corps.

Yep. Things are never going to please everyone. Although it would bring me some level of disappointment if Tyrese gets this role, ultimately I'm just happy they're giving us a connected DCU. WB still has a long way to go, though.
