we've got a new worst M/TV Board poster here.
Anyways, I don't like Two and a Half Men THAT much at all, really I've only seen it a few times, but it reminds me a lot of one of my favorites, How I Met Your Mother, with obviously a few differences. There are really no Women in Ta1/2 men, except for the fat ginger and Alan's ex-wife. HIMYM's women are key to the story and they're hot, speaking of story, ta.5 men hasn't got one. It's effing pointless. HIMYM and even BBT have points, the guy gets the girl, etc. Ta1/2men has no point and although it's as repetitious as HIMYM, which has been quite off lately, the characters just aren't as good. It's good for a few laughs, but overall just not that great.

Two and a Half Men...
Worst popular sitcom ever?
I find Everybody Loves Raymond and KoQ funny because Ray and Kevin James are both likable guys who mean well but are just so socially inept that it causes a lot of situations to be funny. And they both have kinda bitchy wives.
None of the characters in 2.5 men are even likable. I hate them all

I may be the only person on the board (at least the only one to admit it), but I have watched two and a half men and I have liked it. I don't watch all the new episodes nor am I dieing to see next weeks... however, I have seen a lot of them, and the older ones I like. The newer eps are not as good because it is old hat and the boy is getting older. But the show had a good chemistry with Charlie playing Charlie, weird Alan, fat kid, Berta (Berta was and is always money), countless hot chicks, and goofy scenarios plus endless one liners. This board fricking hates this show though.
I agree with everything you said. I also like the King of Queens as well.

The problem with Two and a Half Men is that it keeps trying to one-up itself with the sex jokes.
The show has been funny in the past and still has solid moments, but it undermines itself with lowest-common-denominator (and I really mean LOWEST) jokes that are lame and make the viewer uncomfortable.
How many jokes do we need to hear about Alan's chronic masturbation? It seems like there's one every few minutes now.
Does Charlie do ANYTHING else other screw random chicks? Some of the funniest episodes in the series run have nothing to do with Charlie drinking and screwing. Go back to season 3 and 4 and you'll see what I mean.
This show is just in the final stage of its life cycle, where the characters gravitate to their stock characteristics and become one-trick ponies. Sadly, the one trick they keep doing is the one that makes you squirm instead of laugh.

quote:Precisely. It's not just that the show is unfunny. Hell, that doesn't make you special. It's that it's lazy. The fact that this is the #1 show infuriates me. It's just the triumph of mediocrity. There are worse shows, just few of them are as successful as this.

I will stand up for Raymond. It just had so many talented comedians on it, it couldn't help but be funny. the stories sucked, and there were plenty of lazy jokes, but the performers really rose above the material and made it funny. Brad Garrett is comedy gold. Actually, it was the supporting cast that was great, not the lead couple.
KOQ had Patton Oswalt, which at least brings a show to tolerable in my world.

I rank Seinfeld second to only Arrested Development as the funniest thing ever on TV.

Friends had a few really funny moments but the monumental sucking of the Ross character made it hard to watch. Stupid, whiny, and abrasive just doesn't make me laugh. Monica sucked as well but not on the same level. Joey and Phoebe were pretty funny though.

2.5 men is the most depressing show on TV. I don't see how y'all don't see that.

I like Two 1/2 but the past couple of seasons are relying WAY too much on the sex jokes. It's almost unwatchable now.
KOQ was ok. It had it's moments on the few episodes I saw.
I enjoyed Raymond's parents the best.
I like Rules of Engagement much better.

I thought KOQ was hilarious. Literally everything that came out of Arthurs mouth was gold.
I never got into Friends or Seinfeld really but I wouldnt say I didnt like them. I love Curb and its pretty much the same thing as Seinfeld.
Not a big fan of 2.5 men but I also wasnt a fan of How i met your mother but started watching it from the beginning and now i love it so who knows.

Will I get murdered on the Movie/TV board if I say that the humor of 2.5 Men is pretty much the same as the humor on Big Bang Theory? I think both are terrible. Both launch obvious joke after obvious joke at the audience, but the only difference is a science term is thrown in in BBT.
Posted on 12/7/10 at 11:30 am to DestrehanTiger
The humor is the same, but I think Big Bang Theory is simply far better executed. There's nothing wrong with a two-camera sitcom inherently. It's just when the show is so lazy that it keeps dipping for the same joke each week, it gets tedious. Also, Big Bang gets a bit of a pass for its "geek chorus" and how it conciously digs into the layers of nerdom. It's not groundbreaking TV or anything, but it's a fun way to spend 30 minutes.
That's the key difference. Big Bang Theory is fun, and doesn't make me feel like I need a shower after wtaching it. 2.5 Men just feels like they aren't even trying, and they know you'll watch.

The first 3 or 4 seasons were hilarious..went downhill when the kid got older.
I think this sums it up best. I've tried to explain it to others as, "When the kid was 11 or 12 and an idiot, it was funny. The kid still being an idiot all these years later is sad"
I actually still watch the show, not sure why, I guess I just like the occasional laugh it delivers. I would like to see them put it to rest though.

I'll back Baloo up with his assessment that Two and a Half Men is lazy, and also back up your assessment that the show got worse when the kid got older.
What happened? My theory is that as Baloo says... the writers keep going to the same two wells over and over: Alan is pathetic, and Charlie is a drunk whoremonger.
But in doing so, they are missing out on:
1. Jake at school and learning to be a man
2. Judith, who you never see anymore
3. Alan and Charlie's mom, who is consistently funny
4. Rose and her weirdness
5. Berta, who is usually good for the time she gets
If I were a supporting actor on this show, I would be pissed!
I would ALMOST buy that the enormous salaries of its lead actors make them trim the cast list from episode to episode, but that would be inconsistent with the number of guest stars they use on the show, particularly as Charlie's conquests.
The show is just lazy, and it's not just because the kid got older... they forgot about the kid. And everyone else!

I dont like being limited to a only a few different sets which is a big limitation of those. Also the laugh tracks suck

laugh tracks suck but so do 'live audiences'. Listening to those idiots giggle themselves silly while some horribly obvious joke gets set up is painful.

I remember a saved by the bell where you could hear someone from the audience yell "oooh busted!"
