HBO confirmed late Thursday that the next installment of the high-profile detective series will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks. A mystery will deepen over decades and play out in three separate time periods.

They must be handing out tax breaks and incentives like Mardi Gras beads

Ozarks was filmed mainly in Georgia.

Pizzolatto went to school at U of A in Fayetteville. He knows the area well and nearly set season 1 in northwest Ark. Ozarks, but he knew S. Louisiana was too good of a location to pass up.

Ali is supposedly playing an Arkansas State Police investigator tracking a series of "macabre" crimes in the Ozarks.

I think he is a little miscast here, even someone like Channing Tatum would have been better because he has the accent and is from the south.

Ali, to me, would have been great in a NY set show, but I'm still optimistic.

I don't know. I think there could've been a fantastic story in some of the less glamorous areas of Southern California. The execution was just horrible and the story boring.

given the amount of time in between season 2 and 3, and the lack of time between seasons 1 and 2, i imagine pizzolatto has had an easier go of creating a solid story...i hope so anyway.

i'm also pleased to hear that directorial duties will be held by only 2 people this time, though this will be a first for pizzolatto i believe. last season had a collective of fricktards for the most part, and none of them could live up to cary fukunaga's excellence. keeping the process in the hands of just two people bodes well for continuity and vision.

i've always been a fan of crime fiction made for adults, and have no problem giving mr. pizzolatto another shot. hopefully the inherent creepiness of arkansas & some of its folk will set a solid tone and atmosphere.

you're joking right?

channing tatum is only decent when he's playing dumb-frick airhead characters, i.e. himself, in comedies. Ali is objectively the better actor, and his skills are much more in line with the type of show True Detective is than tater's "skills." I think it's a solid casting choice.

This has the sound, at least, of a return to form.

Part of what made Season 1 so successful was the setting and the time frames.

I like the Ozarks as a setting quite a bit and the jump in time. Good start.

Graham Gordy is also on the project, and he's very talented with both capturing a region as well as a historical milieu and feel (as evidenced by Quarry, which was amazing and totally underviewed). He's also an Arkansas native who has spent significant time in the Ozarks (he lived and wrote off grid on the Buffalo for a while, I believe). It's a damned shame that Quarry didn't get renewed, but I'm glad that he's getting to work on TD, now.

Season 1 was incredible - especially with the Louisiana connection. I actually liked Season 2 as well but I know most others did not. Have been waiting for news on a new season.. pretty excited.
