The ending of season 1 wasn't bad it just wasn't as good as the rest of the season.

The ending of season 4 is worse than the rest of the season that was already a steaming pile of garbage.

agreed. it's a true "seeing is believing" situation.

It really is. My wife doesn't watch most of these shows so she just asks me to tell her about them. She knew I was disappointed in the season but she's asked me a few times to tell her about the finale and I seriously just laugh. Just trying to describe it out loud to someone it sounds even dumber than typing it out.

dude...it's not a bubble.

With this, it is. In the thread we had people saying they need to drop the last two episodes together and cut their losses, pronounced it as a massive failure, etc. It's clearly not. Tons of people watched it, and even though we almost all hated it/thought it was terrible, a ton of people liked it. They've never announced a follow up TD season as fast as this. It was watched by more people than any season of TD ever. HBO cares about eyeballs and money, and this apparently brought both.

who are these people?

do you know a single person in real life that loves season 4? i dont know a single one. many of my friends bailed after one or two episodes. go look on the social media pages that arent HBO's - literally tens if not hundreds of thousands of comments almost universally bashing the season. how, by any definition of the word, does that make TD a "bubble"?

conversely, TD is a microcosm.

Hold the phone, you are saying Eskimo Lady Swat Team is better than Rust and Marty being old and walking off into the LGMC night? Who hurt you? Show us all on the doll.

Issa López, the creator of “True Detective: Night Country,” will helm the fifth season under her new overall deal with HBO.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

I've watched the first four episodes but really haven't found it all that interesting. Is it worth finishing?

Keep watching it until it gets good for 10 minutes...then stop after that. Had you only watched one episode I would say stop.

But since you have watched this much...you might as well watch the only good 10 minutes of the show...and the messed up part...is you will know it when it happens.

Everything looked good about Season 4 until I started actually watching it. Then it quickly unraveled. Strong cast, great setting, a great director on board. But, the writing was just terrible. By the end, I wanted the 6 hours back that I had just wasted.

At the risk of making way too much out of this, it seems to me that giving Lopez another season just screams of everything that's wrong in today's world, where people are rewarded more for being the right gender/color than actually producing a quality product.

Issa Lopez is the Kamala Harris of show runners -- the emptiest of empty suits. All style, no substance.

True Detective Season 5? I'm in.
True Detective Season 5 with Issa Lopez? No thanks.

i'm honestly unsure of what scene you are talking about lol

the only scene in the entire six episodes that made me feel a single feeling was the narrative non-sequitur scene of the cop waiting for his no-show mail order bride, and that was more, i think, because i was dealing with my own issues that day and was emotionally vulnerable.

HBO content is just as shitty as Netflix so it's not surprising they'd renew trash content.

Where are the numbers? The studio may be gambling that this news will make people watch the current season and anticipate the next. You give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt too often. I do not believe the numbers were good and until I see an objective set of numbers, I don't believe it did well.

Hollywood has sunk an ungodly amount of money into DEI content and they've shown no attempt to admit they're wrong about its core philosophy (i.e. blank slatism, systemic racism, etc.)

Do not assume this isn't a double-down to prove their point. At the end of the day they know the truth regardless of the wishcasting they do with their press releases.

They truly believe they can use language to override objective reality.

Where you're looking at yes, I believe you. But like I said in the other thread, I went down a Night Country finale rabbit hole on Tik Tok the other night and was blown away at the amount of people that loved it. These weren't huge influencers or stuff being bought by HBO, these were just regular accounts and 90% of the posts were all positive mainly positive reviews. I was blown away. I stopped scrolling I was so annoyed. We know the RT critic score is BS, but the audience score is at 59%. If there was a Tigerdroppings score, we'd be at about 4%. That's a bubble. You can claim that everyone in the world hates it and I guess more people watched it every week and got the highest numbers in True Detective history based on hate watching if you want, but it's not true. A good chunk of people watched it because they enjoyed it.

"the numbers" are in the OP, but they are also "per HBO", which i am of the opinion means they are about as reliable as MSM reported COVID statistics.

lol, ok. we must travel in entirely different portions of the interwebz and just cross paths here. i havent seen anything at all like you are describing, to include Reddit, and Reddit was ALL THE WAY IN on this season early on. anyone who even hinted at maybe it not being good was downvoted into oblivion. to me, that's about all the evidence i need that TD doesnt represent a bubble.
