Was anyone else disappointed about the last scene? It left a lot of questions. They really needed to add a scene where he drops off the money as evidence. The movie makes it appear that he just gave them the money and said okay thanks without grilling him about Alonzo's death and let him go home.

All I remember about training day is that it beat out Gladiator for best film of 2000 I think. I'll have to go back and watch it, haven't seen it in at least 10 years.

By that point it was well known that Alonzo's death was a direct result of having owed whatever mafia big $$$. The scene would have been out of place since Alonzo received street justice as opposed to judicial. They need to come out with a sequel with Ethan Hawk as the lead detective, and his jolyness Jayden Smith as the rookie. That's a billion dollar idea for sure.

I thought Denzel was fantastic in that role. The Devil incarnate.

Russell Crowe won the Oscar for Best Actor over Tom Hanks. This was a mistake IMO. They should have given that statuette to Hanks for his performance in Cast Away.

Just as they should have given the Oscar to Russell Crowe for his performance the very next year in A Beautiful Mind. Denzel was just playing Denzel in Training Day. His performance was charismatic but hardly the year's best. Crowe's performance in A Beautiful Mind was so much better.

I always thought the point of the ending was that Alonzo will be honored as a great detective that was gunned down doing his job. I don't remember if it was in the deleted ending or original, but a news promo played over the scene as Hoyt walked into his house that sounded like Alonzo's dirty business was never reported.

Basically none of the dirt would see the light.

Outside of eva mendes, best scene in the movie is when they get in that old monte carlo and dre starts playing.

What probably happened is the 3 Wise Men saw what happened, didn't want to go probing into things that could potentially bite them in the arse since they were a part of Alonzo's whole plan, let Jake go because pursuing that angle could only lead to complications and potential trouble. So they hushed everything up, swept it under the rug, and put out the "Hero cop tragically killed" story to tie it all up.
