Besides jumping a shark.
They do a musical version of an episode
The cast goes to an alternate location/vacation

The boxing episode. They all have one.

Instead of this thread we can just all do a Community thread where they break the fourth wall and tell you all the TV tropes that will be mentioned in here. But it'll be way more fun

The leads finally get together.

This reminds me of 2 of my favorite IASIP episodes. The Nightman Cometh and The Gang Goes To The Jersey Shore.

when they start getting their ideas from the national news outlets

Ehh... A bunch of musical episodes end up being really good though.
Also, Saved By the Bell summer at the beach was greatness.

When different characters start to date or whenever there's a gimmick that carries over for most of a season. Like an entire final season taking place in 24 hours.
I'm looking at you How I Met Your Mother.....

I mean The Flash has done both of those.
Yeah the musical episode was a dumpster fire, but it's still a show that's probably going to be on for close to 10 more years

They have been doing this for years. And it's always usually to some beach location.
Brady Bunch - Hawaii
Full House - Hawaii
Mama's Family - Hawaii
The Jeffersons - Hawaii
Saved by the Bell - Hawaii
Facts of Life - went to France
Another thing they did with classic 80's/90's sitcoms when they were running out of funny material...they tackled social issues and made a serious episode.

Always Sunny and Psych both pulled these off pretty well.

And ruined bicycle shops for an entire generation of kids.

Yeah that was the creepiest on Diff'rent Strokes.
Too Close for Comfort - Kidnapping and rape
Family Ties - incestuous pedophilia
All in the Family - sexual assault
Diff'rent Strokes (again) - kidnapping and threatening murder
Family Ties - Tom Hanks is an alcoholic
Facts of Life - attempted sexual assault

I think the bowling league episode is even more prevalent than the boxing episode. Large number of sitcoms have that bowling league epi.

Few things say "we got nothin'" like a new baby.
There's a cousin of the clip show/flashback episode where they do the "what might've been"/alternate history angle.
There's often at least one scene where some skinny actor dons the fat suit.
ETA - Growing Pains had the drunk driving episode with Matthew Perry.

Scrubs did both of these very well.
