Revamped Top Gear premiers tonight on BBC America. From all of the review, its sounds like it is a flop and Chris Evans is terrible.

I'll give it a go, but it sounds like it is exactly what everyone expected. No way you can reproduce the chemistry of Clark, May, and Hammond, especially in the same format.

Btw, Polar Special is on right now

I won't watch. BBC isn't getting any views from me.

I'll turn it on for probably 10 minutes just to see the train wreck. I can't believe they made Matt Le Blanc a host too...if you've ever seen him interviewed dude had the personality of a broken foot. I guess he's still a big star in Britain, he has/had a show there the past few years and I think Friends was the biggest show ever there.

The only mildly interesting part of the show. Otherwise it was Joey Tribbiani meets Austin Powers.

Vice review.

the absence of Clarkson is a huge deal. To them, this is like a Beatles reunion with no Paul McCartney and Joey Essex on drums. This is Moby Dick rewritten by Stephanie Meyer. This is a remake of Ghostbusters with an all female cast.

Ouch...

This is from Jalopnik

Obviously no show is perfect, and even old Top Gear had some boring episodes so I’ll reserve judgment for now, but if this episode is any indicator of what’s in store for fans like me, then I’ll be the first to say:

May Top Gear rest in peace, long live The Grand Tour.

Also, looks like Evan's is on a tear whining via twitter about the negative feedback. What a count

They act as if Clarkson, May and Hammond's chemistry being the real attraction is some new revelation. People have known that all along. It could be a show about gardening and it would still be great.

Exactly, with youtube, car reviews are a dime a dozen these days... Top Gear evolved and it wasn't about the cars, it was about their on screen chemistry. BBC will never be able to recreate that. IMO, they should have completely rebooted the show with a different name.

Chris Evans ?@achrisevans 8h8 hours ago The new Top Gear is a hit. OFFICIALLY. 23 % audience share. 12% MORE than the opening episode of the last series. These are the FACTS.

It's officially a hit. Unofficially, people are making fun of it. For example:

The Guardian live blog

The film has ended, and now the programme is about to end. That wasn’t very good, was it? Still, thanks for reading along. Will there be a Top Gear liveblog this time next week? God no. GOD NO. Bye.

I remember seeing tweets where people said they'd rather the BBC had shown James May rebuilding the lawn mower again.

He can whine all he likes. They got a big audience the first week but it will decay and die relatively quickly.

He's comparing this premier to the premier of last season... I would hope that your viewership would be up due to the amount of people tuning in just to see what its about.

How about comparing this to last years finale? Last year had 1m more viewers than last night... Facts folks, facts

As for more people joining later, I'd imagine people were seeing all of the negative publicity and were tuning in to see the train wreck.

well here we go.

Even if it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, BBC America has kindly scheduled Top Gear: The best of Hammond, May and Clarkson right after.

I will reserve judgement on Evans and LeBlanc till later, but the production is still top notch and is what has always made the show for me.
