Do y'all think he'll do a good job? I doubt he can top Heath Ledger's performance but do you think he can come close?

IDK if he'll top Ledger, but I think he'll get at least a little Oscar chatter. Probably not much, but just from what I'm seen he looks extremely convincing

i think he will be good. i haven't seen a performance in any film since 2008 that has topped ledger's so far though, at least IMO

damn, IDK about that but I can see your point. Colin Firth in King's Speech was up there.

there are some performances that i would say have matched Ledger's in quality. I still haven't been wowed like i was when i first saw TDK though

He'll give a good performance as Bane. I dont think it will reach the level of Ledger's Joker, that was one of the best performances Ive seen.

I don't think he will due to wearing a mask the whole time and the voice change. If you listen to him from the on set videos you can tell they altered it.

He won't top Ledger only because Ledger gave one of the best acting performances of the last 10 years.

However I'm expecting Hardy to do an awesome Bane. Look at his last couple of films, Bronson, Warrior, Inception. All great performances.

Don't forget his role as Twombly (the guy who burst his eardrums) in blackhawk down!

Heath Ledger wasn't as amazing as everyone hyped him to be! I know, I know, most everyone will tell me I'm retarded for making that statement.

He did a really good job. It wasn't Oscar worthy, but to be brutally honest, his death made the performance more sinister than it actually was in everyone's minds.

Some of the pre-hype for this movie indicates that Tom Hardy has given a once in a lifetime performance, and the movie is supposed to be off the charts awesome.

Tom Hardy's performance will be far better than Heath Ledger's...

i don't necessarily agree with this, but i don't really disagree with it, either.

i think ledger turned in one hell of a performance, but i think it's held in a higher regard because of his death. to be totally honest, i'm not sure where i stand on it. i know it was a great performance, but i don't know if it truly lived up to the hype.

Meh, I don't care that he died. IMO, he seemed actually psycho. I came away more impressed not by the fact he died, but by the fact that I hadn't seen a movie with him in it at that time that would lead me to believe he was even capable of such a performance.

And Hardy is going to be fine. I agree with every one else that the closest role to Bane that he has done that I am aware of would be Bronson.

I look forward to a lot of Hardy and Fassbender movies in the future.

You about summed it up. However, if I'm pondering whether or not a performance was amazing, then it probably wasn't as great as the hype.

It's almost like I felt I needed to focus on how good his performance was because all of the hype surrounding the performance. If he hadn't have died, I'm not certain he would've been nominated for an Academy Award. It would have simply been a good villain performance.

it is an interesting argument - could you argue that if say Alfred Molina died just after finishing Spider Man 2 his last performance would have been considered in the same category as the Joker?

Probably not, I do think Ledger's was better... but nothing polishes a performance like death

I actually agree that the death did increase the hype, but I'll still say his Joker was as good of an acting performance that I can remember. He took a character traditionally cast in a different light, played it in a different role, and he was exceptional.
