Watched this movie last night and it had some pretty great performances from a loaded cast- Garty Oldman, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Benbedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, and Ciaron Hinds (super-underrated/underused actor imo). Even the rest of the cast with less prominent roles did a great job, especially David Dencik and Simon Mc Burne. I'd be hard-pressed to find a movie with a simimlarly stacked cast.

It was very well directed and beautifully filmed. It does a good job of having a very Cold-War aura throughout.

My beef with this movie is that it was just boring and kind of overly-convoluted.

Also I thought it was fairly obvious that (SPOILER) Firth's character was the mole early on in the film.

And finally, making Peter Guillam gay (apparently?) seemed kind of bizarre. The justification was apparently to give his character "depth."

Movie was exhausting to watch - will never do so again.

Acting was good and the cast is obviously stacked.

The film's a masterpiece. I'm annoyed they haven't made the follow-up (based on Smiley's People) they said they were going to.

The BBC miniseries is excellent as well.

I liked it, and I like all espionage movies.

GF, however, has attempted to ban it entirely, claiming it is the most boring movie of all time.

This was seriously on of the most boring movies I have ever watched, or partly watched/. Iturned it off 45 minutes in, couldn't take it.

I can't ever remember not finishing a movie for lack of caring...

The movie is an old-school mood piece. The obtuseness of the story is deliberate - if the information were rolled out linearly, it would actually be a fairly straightforward plot. But like the book, it aims to present the hazy, paranoia soaked lives of a bunch of aging intelligent officers operating in a world in which they're no longer relevant.

I find it superb and mesmerizing. I could watch these characters stewing in smoke-filled rooms for hours.

i tried to watch it twice and got distracted due to boredom so figured it wasn't worth a third.

- I went in expecting something like The Good Shepherd, which i thoroughly enjoyed

Haven't seen that but I'm surprised you embrace it when your main issue with Tinker Tailor was boredom since I distinctly remember that being a major complaint against The Good Shepherd upon release, not to mention its near 3-hour runtime versus Tinker Tailor's two hours.

I don't know, I just remembering liking the plot and being intrigued by The Good Shepherd. I can handle a long movie, and prefer it, as long as it keeps me entertained.

I'll give TTSS another shot because it doesn't take a whole lot for me to like a spy flick.

Agree with all this. Oldman was robbed of the Best Actor Oscar that year IMO

Complete agree with this. Oldman was awesome in this movie. I think that was the year they gave it to the guy from The Artist. Such a joke.
