In all honesty, it's in my top 5. GREAT MOVIE.

cocomo will back me up on this.

Correct. It's in my top 5 as well. Awesome, awesome movie, and one of the most fun experiences I've ever had in a movie theater really.

I may check it out tonight. from the looks of the cover, it appears that both Jackman and Bale were the leads in this movie. who had the better role/performance?

Hard to say, both were great. And David Bowie was great as Tesla. And obviously Michael Caine was fantastic as usual. It's such a cool arse movie. And I had so much fun seeing it the first time (like I mentioned above) because about halfway through the movie, you have it figured out and then spend the rest of the movie finding out if you were right. Just a really, really cool movie IMO.

Also, this.

I like just about all of Nolan's movies, but this one is #1 for me. Memento was great, but I'd have to have it behind The Prestige.

Their roles are equally important to the story as they play rival magicians.

If I had to choose between them performance wise, I found myself more surprised with Jackman, especially early on in the movie when a specific event changes the career of his character.

Memento is my favorite movie ever, so I obviously wouldn't agree, but The Prestige is my second favorite Nolan and an amazing film in its own right.

Checked out this movie last week for the first time. I love it but it wasn't my favorite Nolan film.

The Prestige

Own it on Blu Ray and think it's one of my favorite movies in a long time. Inception and TDK are right there with it as far as Nolan movies. Memento is great as well. I watched it again recently and I think Prestige is even more watchable.

same here

I just love movies that take place around the turn of the century.

From Hell, though a completely different movie, is another that I LOVE.

The Prestige is a fantastic movie in almost every way. My wife watched it for the first time a few months ago and was blown away by how awesome it could be. She didn't believe me beforehand when I said it was the same director that did the dark knight and that THIS movie was better...

Definitely one of my top 5 movies and I don't know another one where it got better with second and third viewings.

The whole movie is setup like a magic trick.

surprised no one here has told us they picked up the twist in the first 20 minutes of the movie yet

Spoilers..

I don't think you could have in the first 20 minutes, but it was clear that the machine was a cloning machine. Once you saw the black cat outside, you knew it and it was confirmed shortly thereafter with all the hats. But still watching it to the end to see just what was going on was fun as hell. And didn't Michael Caine say early on that Bale's trick was using twins? That was cool that they straight up told you how it was done, but you're taken on such a ride from Jackman's perspective that you want to believe it's more than just twins.

Typing all this out makes me want to watch it again.

I want to thank this board for turning me on to both Memento and The Prestige about a year ago. I own both movies and they are easily 2 of my favorites to watch regularly.

As for this thread, The Prestige is the best of the group.

I think he said early on that he was using a double, but you didn't realize it was in plain site and that the 2 were sharing the same life. I never understood why they were so committed to the trick that they couldn't even tell the wife

And this is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. Everything is just spot on. Bale and Jackman were both money. I'd rank it as Nolan's best movie for sure. And I'd rank TDK above Momento for 2nd and 3rd.

Right, but I mean that he said it was a double...and he was right. The way they played it though, they were two people playing the same person. But all in all, Caine called it as a double and he was absolutely right...just not in the way you're made to think. Another reasons it's so cool.

when they go see the old chinese magician. Later Jackman tells his girlfriend that he couldn't tell how it was done at first, but bale saw it right away. "I couldn't live like that". I loved that after watching a second time. And trying to decide which Bale was which in each given scene.
