With the new one released do I need to watch the 3 previous with Mel Gibson?

And second question, even if not, should I?

I know nothing about these films.

Yes they're all pretty good. Thunderdome gets a lot of hate but I still like it.

Me too.

But no, OP doesn't have to watch them. Some small details make more sense if he does, but it's not essential.

You don't need to. They all pretty much stand alone. The first might be the only one that really adds anything to the character or story in any way that really contributes to the other movies, and that's just because it gives the explanation of how Max became what he is.

It really isn't necessary though. All of the movies are pretty much just pure action movies. They're fun rides. Thw story isnt that important. I think they're all worth while watching.

The first 2, especially the first 1, were really low budget and pretty dated by now. They have some great action sequences with great practical effects. The car chase scenes in the first one are as good as any movie out there. The third, beyond the thunderdome, is in my opinion the worst, but it's still worth watching if for nothing else the actual thunderdome and master and blaster.

Each are stand alone films, and the chronology doesn't make sense if you view them as one cohesive whole (it is better to view them all as folk stories of a possibly fictional person in a post-apocalyptic future).

Honestly, just watch the Road Warrior. It's the only one of the first three I'd argue is a truly great action film. Mad Max has some spectacular moments, and the stunts are all real which is pretty cool, but the middle of the movie drags pretty badly.

I'd agree the Road Warrior is by far the best and is still a good watch. To me, the first one starts out great and that makes it worth watching.

Definitely don't need to see any of them to appreciate the new one, but I'd watch the first two to compare them, even if it's after you see the new one.

No.. They all can be viewed independently if you ask me.. Fury road is incredible to me.. Road warrior coming in second with Thunderdome behind it .. The original mad max is good but I wasnt a big fan of the style and cinematography.

Watch Road Warrior for sure. Read the synopsis for Mad Max and Beyond Thunderdome. Unless you really want to watch them.

Fury Road was pretty good. I liked it a lot, and I give Miller tons of props for sticking to a very similar style and tone.

I still think the first one has the best story. The revenge aspect was really cool (without giving spoilers). Nux from Fury Road is the best character in the series, IMO.

I personally think Fury Road is the best. Most would probably say The Road Warrior, but then again I didn't see the Mad Max movies until a few months ago ( I still have yet to see Thunderdome).

Anyway, Mad Max, The Road Warrior, and Fury Road are all great movies. Do yourself a favor and watch them. You don't have to to watch Fury Road, but it wouldn't hurt.

They all stand alone but I think you should watch the first three to see what its all about. I liked the second one the best myself. The third was just comical.

I just don't get the hate for this movie! I loved it, but then I pretty much love all things Mad Max.
To me:
1a. Road Warrior
1b Fury Road
1c Thunderdome
4. Mad Max

I would watch the original 3 in order then the new one.

You can definitely skip Max Max and go straight to Road Warrior but if you do that you miss out on some backstory and the evolution that makes Max into the Road Warrior.

That's still the best one. The new one was definitely a big bang, but the plot was just way too superficial for my taste.

The original is the best . Very raw...quirky and grounded in australia. The actor who plays immortan Joe , plays a great bad guy in the original. Awesome show

I agree that it gets too much hate and people need to take the sticks out of their asses, but it is silly and over the top. Just look at the main bad guys, Tina Turner and Master Blaster, they're practically carnies. The only thing missing was the bearded lady.

When I was a kid, they used to show it with American English dubbed over the Aussie accents.
