Is this a fair place to talk about how fricking horrifying the 1994 live action Jungle Book was?

I came across it a few weeks ago flipping through the channels - stars 20 year old Lena Headey.

Goddamn overabundance of CGI animals and backgrounds is overkill. I'm tired of this shite.

Christopher Walken as King Louie should be hilarious. Scarlett is obviously Kaa in a gender swap.

Yeah I don't know what to make of Kaa being a female now. Of course, Scarlett's voice is suitable for a 'seductive' and 'deceitful' character.

Walken as King Louie seems like a disaster waiting to happen and I was hoping for someone more menacing to play Shere Khan. I have my doubts about Idris Elba.

I think its a good idea

the "live action" version likely wont have the swirly hypnosis eyes so they need the snake to have some sort of way to "seduce" or "hypnotize" mowgli

it seems natural that a boy who has never had a mother or female influence in his life could be easily swayed by a female

besides, it would seem a little rapey i think if it was a man's voice

Definitely a selling point. And Sam Neil is always a bonus.

I am stoked for this - and to the guy dogging Maleficent - that movie was good.

Not quite the words you would expect to find in a Disney thread

I love the animated movie...I will watch this as I think it has potential(great voice actor list)...just hate all the bad CGI.

It sucked. Typical PC garbage. They took Disney's most iconic villain and made her the "hero" of the story. Maleficent wasn't Aurora's fairy godmother. That's just wrong.

I can handle having the story told from her point of view, but you can't take the villain of the story and suddenly make him/her the protagonist. It's just bad storytelling.

What's next...a retelling of Snow White where the queen is the sympathetic character and Snow White and the dwarfs are trying to kill her?

I inherited a 1st edition of The Jungle Book by Kiplin that had belonged to my grandfather. I'm named after him but never got to meet him since he died of a heart attack when my dad was 17.

Kipling was his favorite author and so that book has always held a special place for me. I've read every story so many times I can't imagine.

The animated movie was a childhood favorite.

I've got no problem with the change of Kaa to Scarlett, and although the CGi looks a bit heavy handed, I am STOKED to see this.

Agree completely.

A good old story of how someone became evil done right would be amazing and fresh from a Disney standpoint.

I thought Disney with Maleficent was going for a Wicked type of story line. Something that could be dark and magical at the same time. Wicked was a fantastic broadway play.

What they did was just simply butcher one of their most iconic characters...not surprising Angelina Jolie was involved.

This is what I was expecting. They'd tell the story of how she eventually became corrupted by evil...but she'd still be the villain.

Wicked did that exceptionally well.

HA!

No, I'm named after the grandfather I never got to meet.

But hey, Rudyard isn't the worst name out there.
