Took my 3 year old to see it this weekend and it was one of the best Pixar movies I've sat through. Enough adult humor and a good story without any singing. I really enjoyed it and my kid loved every second. Kinda made me nostalgic remembering The Land Before Time. I usually dread going to these movies because the stories are garbage but I really enjoyed it.

Pixar is always better than the rest but the stories are hit or miss. This one was great. I still haven't seen Inside Out but I hear Santa is bringing it. The Zootopia movie preview for 2016 had me crying at the sloth DMV scene.

It might be my favorite Pixar movie. It kicked me hard in the feels.

What? Disney/Pixar is pretty darn legit.

ETA: I was not a big fan of Inside Out. It's good, but there was something about it that didn't make it stand out. Although I'm a huge fan of Bing Bong.

I liked it alot better than inside out, not that inside was bad. It was a really good movie. This just had a lion king type feel without the singing.

Pixar hasn't once made a musical.

Yeah, Pixar makes complete garbage, which is why 10 out of their 16 films are above a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. The Good Dinosaur is not one of them. It looks fine for what it is, but no one is really saying it's brilliant. I will give it the benefit of the doubt that it had the misfortune of directly following Inside Out, which may be their most brilliant work yet and has a good shot of being nominated for Best Picture. But Pixar has followed up brilliant work after brilliant work in the past that would be hard to follow.

I think the problem is it is obviously a kid's movie. It looks like a good kid's movie, but a kid's movie nonetheless. Most the reviews I've read have confirmed this suspicion. Just Pixar has done such a damn good job dissecting the psyche throughout their years as a studio that there are very few of the films they make that don't directly try to appeal to the adult audience as much as the younger audience. Cars is really the only series they've made that I think is completely guilty of pandering to kids.

You will enjoy it more than your kid will.

We went on Sunday to see it and took our 2 1/2 year old. We all enjoyed it very much. The quoted above is exactly the case. It also felt like the movie was meant to show off the strong animation, particularly the water and landscapes, as opposed to being a strong story. That is not meant to suggest the story is lacking, but it's a story we have seen before with other Disney movies. I think there are some clever devices used in telling the story that makes this one a bit unique.

Saw it last Saturday. It was good but not great. Like Lion king with no songs and dinosaurs instead of lions. I think almost all Pixar movies are great so wen I say I would put this in the bottom half of Pixar movies its still good.

Also, ZooTopia preview was funny stuff.

so did the Good Dinosaurs dad get murdered by his brother?

Inside Out was a good movie for adults. Don't see how any kid enjoys watching that movie except for the Bing Bong parts. The entire story is over the head of any kid under age 8 or 9.

My 5 and 6 year old loved Bing Bong (my 5 year old cried when he sacrificed himself)

But they also like the idea of all the emotions being characterized. They loved anger, sadness, and joy. They got it for the most part.

Inside Out was a great movie.

I have a very hard time believing you that a 5 year old understood the idea of all the emotions, or even understood that all of those characters and the movie for the most part was happening inside Riley's head.

Good Dinosaur is bottom-half on the list of Pixar movies, but it is by no means a bad movie. It might be the most beautiful Pixar film ever with the photorealistic landscapes. The story was just pretty standard stuff. Not really any risks taken. I think if they'd have taken a few chances, it could've been elevated from a good movie to a great one.

There were some scenes that looked real. And not "CGI real" either.

And I agree with your review. Bottom half of the Pixar group. Still good. Standard story.

Also, Zootopia and Secret Life of Pets previews had me laughing harder than any point in the movie
