I thought it was really good. I didn't expect it to be anything but a jaw dropping, arse kicking, special effects barrage and hopefully a decent plot. First part was nailed and the plot was alright. Cranston's death surprised me but when his bridge thing went down I thought "ohhhhhh frick, the commercial only had him in the preceding scenes" and boom, dead.

My complaints which have been shared here. Not to take from the movie but I tend to be THAT GUY who is bugged by things.

1) I didn't like the main character. Just didn't. I kinda wished this movie followed multiple people instead of Cranston's son who had a knack for seriously finding every shitty situation. And I mean, he's NAVY EOD, nice, but military protocol really went to shite when they just let him tagalong everywhere I feel like. I am probably wrong but it felt like the whole time the military was like "frick it, there's giant monsters now, why not"

2) Was Cranston seriously the only guy who knew shite was going down with the cover up?

3) Why were they all wearing radiation gear if there was none?

4) Why did Godzilla give a frick about the moota things?

Those were pesky questions but really what bugged me was

5) Why at first did they show us like glimpses of those things fricking up Las Vegas and Honolulu? We see a few glimpses of shite getting fricked up in Hawaii and back to the son with the japanese kid. We see a news broadcast of Vegas getting arse rammed and then back to the son or Noah Vosa. I WANT TO SEE shite GETTING frickED UP, NOT THIS shite DIALOGUE. MONSTERS, BOMBS, MICHAEL BAY. Gimme that, it's Godzilla, I know I signed up for like 5 min of plot. I kept saying, hey, this final battle in San Fran better kick arse after they skipped all those other moments. Luckily it did.

6) The nuke. Everything about it. People here nailed it. Why send a train? Why not send a shite LOAD of support with a giant nuke? Tanks on some of the cars, choppers following, AC 130s? they busy fighting terrorists or something? Cover that thing with more than like 15 soldiers. The idea was flawed too. Everyone has brought up the issues in transport and the plan though. People also mentioned the end. I mean, if that thing is as big as they said it was San Fran was fricked the minute it got there. A boat putzing along isn't gonna save them. And no EMP to knock the chopper out? No blast wave?

Those 2 things aside and the annoying actor I really enjoyed it and wanted to just say my piece even if people don't read it.

Wouldn't an armored convoy work better?

Guess that makes sense. I'd just figured they'd thrown them a little more support than 15 dudes with M4s.

I think they were both prehistoric and both fed off radiation, but Godzilla didn't need the nukes because he lived so far down in the ocean near the earths core which gave him all the radiation he needed

To the people asking if they were enemies, godzilla is always an enemy of other monsters, thats why he is named king of all monsters. He's the alpha monster.

Just got out of it. Loved it. Perfect up to date remake imo. I'm a huge godzilla fan and this one filled my expectations

Same here. Just got back with my wife and two sons and we really enjoyed it. I was going to a Godzilla movie, so I'm pretty forgiving in regards to "plotholes."

Loved so many of the nods to the old flicks. The way the male moto would fly and bank looked almost exactly like the Rodan model would on a string, the atomic fire (I actually did clap silently to myself when Godzilla finished off the female), the visuals of Japan, etc.

The ONLY thing it was missing that I would have REALLY enjoyed would have been a shot of some Japanese running and looking back over their shoulders at the monsters!!

As for not really getting to see a full on fight like a spectator until the very end...I really liked the tease of that. I took it as if they were trying to place you in the action, so while you'd see things you'd see them in snippets like you would if you were on a train and catching glimpses out the passing window, or as doors close, etc. When they finally did pull back towards the end and give you a look, it was a nice pay off.

And yes, that was a classic ending for a Godzilla movie. Destroys city...roars...walks off...swims away.

Hope it makes a killing...I want some more of these.

So is Godzilla presented as the last of a prehistoric species or is he presented as the "god of the earth"?

Neither really , just as something that would help to balance out things when the Mutos went crazy

And to think I thought the movie somehow revolved around humans creating MUTOS to kill Zilla!

There was actually a large number of people on the IMDB forums that thought Mutos were genetically engineered by scientists after Zilla was discovered in 1954. The trailers seemed to suggest that to. "The arrogance of man..."

I too thought the MUTOs were some sort of man-made beast to handle Godzilla. The trailers hinted at such but I was pleased that the movie stayed true to its roots where Godzilla is ultimately a friend to man in his most desperate hour.

From my understanding the MUTOs were parasites and all parasites need a host to survive, or the radiation from the host more or less. Hence why they were found with in the Philippines inside the remains of that old prehistoric beast. I think they mentioned it in a throw away line at least that they were parasites.

This was my initial impression as well based off the first previews I saw. I was under the impression we were going to see these genetically engineered monsters that we had created to combat Godzilla, misunderstanding his intentions, and then the genetically engineered monsters would then turn on us and as result we needed Godzilla to destroy them.

That is only in the cheesier Toho movies the original Gojira, Godzilla is very much not a friend of humanity. Also earlier someone mentioned origin story. In Gojira Godzilla was an after affect of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not Japanese nuclear experiments. My take on the movie enjoyed it and did not mind waiting for the fight scenes. I found the wife more irritating then Kick arse. I mean she dumps her kid on a bus??? The plot would have been better if focusing on Ken Watanabe's character and with Crantson's.

I thought it was going to be like this as well.

I really liked the movie, thought it was great. Even though I'm more of a fan of the older movies where Godzilla is the villain, I understand that if they're going to come out with sequels it makes since to go ahead and make him a hero. That said I really wanted a Godzilla vs. Mothra remake

I know some people are going to hate the movie seems to cut away from actions scenes early, but I thought it was a good way to build suspense in the movie without actually having to hide the monsters like in Cloverfield and Monsters.

I don't care about plotholes in a Godzilla movie, but with all the people pointing them out in this thread I'm surprised no one has questioned how the MUTO in the Philippines was born pregnant, because I was under the impression that it hatched and then went straight to Japan to lay the eggs at the nuclear reactor.

The final fight scenes were amazing. The atomic breath was so legit and the final kill was surprisingly graphic. With the special effects we have today it was great to see them do a Godzilla monster battle right.

Fingers crossed that Edwards does a Destroy All Monsters type sequel like hes said he'd like to do
