The Exorcist-One of the Best Shows on Network TV No One is Watching

I've been watching The Exorcist on Fox since it started and it really is the best show on Network tv. The writing is on point and it slowly unfolds the story, while still keeping the viewer interested. Definitely doesn't seem like a network show and being a network show will probably be its downfall.
I googled the ratings for this to see how its doing and it's doing really bad. Airing on a Friday night doesn't help either.
Definitely check it out if you haven't done so yet, its really well done. I hoping that Netflix picks it up when it gets cancelled.

I just hope they don't end the season on a cliffhanger because there will not be a season 2.

They've been shooting it all around my neighborhood so I need to watch it

I agree. I just hope they're able to even finish the season before getting cancelled.

Totally agree. This show is bordering on appointment TV. It would be great if Fox would remove it from Friday night hell. I'm seriously worried they'll cancel it too

Answer me this, how can they drag out the demonic possession for an entire season? It was already wearing thin in the original movie and the remake.

There's more to it than that.

Example? You can put it in spoilers or whatever, but that's all I know of the exorcist, which is the movie and seeing a priest battle it out in that same bedroom all season long is tiring.

Ok I'll get into spoilers, so you're warned.
The show is a sequel to the movie. Geena Davis is Reagan McNeil as an adult, the demon wants revenge on her and possesses her daughter. One of the priests is a veteran exorcist, but he gets excommunicated. Looks like the head priest in town or whatever still kinda supports him under the table though. A wealthy church donor and her group, including some of the higher ups in the local parish, are actual a Satan worshipping group that summoned something, not sure yet, could be Satan or just some demon. This group is also sponsoring the Pope's visit to town, looks like they may be trying to kill him as well.
Anyway there's multiple sources of drama besides just the girl who's possessed.

I think this show is getting screwed on multiple fronts.
First off is getting stuck in the Friday night death slot. While that slot has worked for shows like the X-Files in the past more often than not it means the network has no confidence in it. It really makes almost no sense that FOX decided against paring this with either Lucifer or Scream Queens. While the latter is doing poorly this year as well it would at least function as a horror programming block. Having it follow Hell's Kitchen is just dumb.
However, the bigger issue is it's a reboot of a rated R horror film on a big four network. So not only is it getting caught up in the "how can they remake this, is nothing sacred, why cant they come up with original ideas" wave, many people who might be interested are instantly turned off simply b/c they think it will be way watered down due to network censorship.
It's too bad b/c this show is really damn good and I'd love to see where all the setup with the infiltration of the Church is going. It's sucks that FOX picked it up for network instead of it ending up on FX paired with American Horror Story. I think it would have had a much better shot of finding an audience that way.

Caught up during the night. Not bad but way too slow. I've never done this before but I used the 15 second fast forward button a lot because there is a ton of filler

I watched the first episode and never watched another.
It seemed very rushed. Very network-ish dumb-downed writing, imo.
My sister is up-to-date and said it has much gotten better since. A positive I've heard is that it is not episodic plot-lines but rather chronological so that's good. I'm on the fence. I just don't know if I should invest the binge hours.

I don't like geena Davis at all in it and there's quite a bit of filler/character development that I skipped through but there's a lot of interesting stuff. They're building into something huge coming.
I would say storywise, this is kinda similar to the strain

I thought so too but there is a pay off for this.

Why air on Friday?
Friday is terrible for new shows.
