How about not stealing a plot line from Austin Powers and making the ultimate villian a pussy with daddy issues for a start? That was the payoff of the Craig movies...petty jealousy.
Yeah, that was pretty bad and there was no need for it either. Could've easily just had Spectre/Blofeld as the villain just because they want to rule the world and it sets up a series of movies like the Connery Bonds. Instead, they wedged in that horrible storyline. Hell, they could've saved Blofeld for another movie down the line.

That's the problem with the current status of the series right there. Bond movies don't have to have some sort of in-depth symbolism. They don't have to reflect the real world. Bond doesn't have to battle his demons or the people from his past. That's part of the reason that the end of Spectre painted the series into a corner. They have screwed themselves because they only have two paths forward and neither is very exciting.

Just make a movie where Bond is given a mission, he seduces a girl, kills the villain, and saves the world. You can do that without making another Die Another Day. The last movie where Bond didn't "go rogue" or quit was The World Is Not Enough.
you got it. They dug themselves quite a hole.

Remake moonraker and follow the book. Instead of a space program, make it missile related but ABM or missile defense, something like that. Book itself gave a decent script.
Could also do that with man with golden gun. Book starts with assassination attempt on M by bond. Could give it a much harder edge than the original.

Just have to say this again: Spectre was the worst Bond movie in the last 25 years, by far.
It was a steaming pile of shite.

By far? It wasn't great but it was much better than half of Brosnan's movies and it's better than Quantum of Solace.

You know a throwback bond at the end of WW2 and facing the commies and their iron curtain could work ... if the writing is done really well. A good complex plot driven story with violent encounters and not too much green screen crap.

If this will indeed be Craig's last film, IMO it may make the most sense to extend and "wrap up" his current story line in the next installation.
Then, with the new Bond, perhaps they can start us in a prior time period (e.g. pre-WW2, Cold War era, etc.) for that series of films. Not only would it provide an "easy" creative answer to the next story/villain problem, but it would also stave off a complete reboot set in modern times (which appears to be the only real choice once Craig departs...).
I don't think any of this is necessary, kill of Daniel Craig's 007 and end the movie with your new star taking the mantle. Not sure why that has to be difficult, if they want a black guy to be bond, that would be the best way to introduce it to audiences is that 007 is a mantle to be taken up rather than a specific person.
