since today is seafaring movies day, I submit The Bounty as one of the all time greatest naval movies.

Fletcher Christian's story is incredible.

How would you compare it to Master and Commander?

The Marlon Brando and Clark Gable versions are much better. I didn't mind Gibson's performance but Hopkins as Capt Bligh was lacking. It came off more crazy and petty than ruthless.

Laughton and Trevor Howard captured a more ruthless and fearful spirit of Capt. Bligh. The crew seemed to loathe Bligh because of his harsh ruthless treatment than being crazy.

Laughton as Bligh:

Trevor Howard as Bligh:

I think it would be awesome to see another remake of this movie...

Casting off the top of my head.

Fletcher Christian-- Leonardo DiCaprio

Capt. Bligh-- Al Pacino

If it's mutiny you want, I prefer The Caine Mutiny (1954 Humphrey Bogart, José Ferrer, Van Johnson, and Fred MacMurray).

I agree. I'll go with Caine.

I just don't like the Bounty story that much.

I liked it so much I honeymooned in Moorea. Mel Gibson does that weird brain hemorrhage thing with his eyes in that movie. Christian's descendants and other Bounty descendants are still on Pitcarn Island and Norfolk Island.
