This show can be brutal at times. That scene with Gabriel and Mischa was not easy to watch.

yeah, that was probably one of the most sad scenes in the entire series. i really hope for both of their sakes, they get to meet. at some point. poor kid. the actor who plays him is really good, too.

From what I've seen so far this season, and esp after the last episode, he's already there. Look for another memory to come forward about his father that will be devastating for him also.

Let me preface this by saying I love this show and have watched from day 1
With that said, does anyone ever get the sense that it just slowly goes in circles?
The do different missions, Stan has doubts and never really gets anywhere, Phillip has his doubts, Gabriel questions their motives and mindset. Rewind, play
It's always been a slow burn but I just get that sense.

Considering the setup, it necessarily has to be that way in a sense. However, it is NOT formulaic (which is what it sounds like you are asking).
Philip's slow decent and now Elizabeth's wavering have been very powerful. frick, that scene with Paige and Philip was tough (and the one between Gabriel and Mischa).
Think about it...they are KGB agents and should absolutely HATE Stan, but they don't and are actually trying to see if the Centre is trying to turn him. Obviously, if they are, they are going to intervene just as Stan has done with Oleg.
Despite the global implications that encompass the show, it is INTENSELY personal.

The more I think about this, the more I think this was one of the best - and most consequential - episodes of the series to date.
One of the running concepts in the show is that when Philip is really "shaky" relative to the mission, Elizabeth hits him with some magic pussy and that gets his mind right (at least relative to the particular "issue" at hand, and for the immediate future). Last night, she didn't even try, despite knowing he was in crisis...and considering the kids were not in the house at the time (perfect opportunity for some afternoon sexytime). Also, at the safe house, she offered an accommodation to him (as a husband/lover/friend, not a fellow agent) to address his crisis of conscience - while also acknowledging the "hard time" he has had for a long time (without judgment or admonishment).
Elizabeth has always been the true believer and the cynic. Yet, you can tell she was truly disturbed by the fact that the Centre was so wrong AND that the evil capitalists were actually trying to "save the world" (including her country).
Couple that with the isolation from their children that was laid bare with Henry and Paige's storylines tonight, and I have a feeling that saving the home-life of the Jennings is about to become a superior mission to saving the Motherland.

Agreed on all of that. Philip always had cracks. They are getting bigger. Now Elizabeth is finally starting to show some.
Also don't forget the scene of her phone call home to Philip just to say "I miss you" after she slept with the target (forget his name). Philip was even taken aback by it as this was so far out of character for her to do something like that.
