Thought 56K was awesome.

Those times remind me of mortal kombat + street fighter, beavis and butthead, mtv unplugged, dime sacks, thinking how cool things will be when I'm older, saving up to buy instruments, comic books, vhs porn, and lots of walking.

80 to about the year 2000 were legit, just enough technology to make things easier but it was not all encompassing.

"Can only remember 97 onwards"

That was literally about the point where music and pop culture fell off a cliff. I envying your youth but I feel sorry for you and those your age that your formative years were dominated by crappy "reality" TV and music that was even more horrible than the low quality TV. The only thing that has somewhat hold up our the sitcoms and some decent movies that are still being made. I'm biased but I still believe the 80s was the best decade to be a kid.

I remember being 12 and discovering the Nirvana "Nevermind" album on a jukebox at johnnys pizza in Monroe. Then I heard smells like teen spirit and life sorta changed after Dave came in with the drums.

It was, but when we had Prodigy we had a 14.4 modem. I remember waiting like two hours for a picture of a Lamborghini to download.

I lived my kid years in the 80's and my teen years in the 90's. was a great decade for music and fun. Pagers to get in touch. Cordless phones in the house. No cell phone when you went out at night.
I'm glad I didn't have facebook and instagram as a kid.

The introduction of the internet to the masses keeps it from getting skulldrug by the 80's.

That and the President having to admit that he got a hummer from some strange in the White House.

I will admit that the 90s had some pretty sweet television and a few gem movies, but 90s pop culture was garbage. The 90s was when Political Correctness went mainstream. 90s music was awful with rare exception. That was when VH1 and MTV stopped playing just music videos. That was the beginning of reality television. The fashions were ugly and stupid. What an awful decade. The only thing that makes it look good is how unbelievably crappy the following decades were.

I think that the fashions from the second half of the decade hold up (because that was when the transition from the 80's was done and we settled into the generic styles that we've had for twenty years).

I agree that the second half was not nearly as bad as the first half, but the first half was Chernobyl bad. Just look at how people dressed in movies like "Encino Man" and PCU. Look at "Grunge" styles.

Late 90s, early 2000s (i.e. 1998-2004) was practically the peak of "hotness" in America. Women wore the skimpiest outfits on average than at any time. The "hotness" was fading, but still lasted until about 2007/2008 when norts and giant t-shirts buried it for good. I actually liked some of the pop rock music from that time like Better than Ezra, Sugarcult, Sum 41, Blink 182, Greenday, ect.
