Agreed. So much of todays life can be attributed to 80`s innovations. Plus. It had the best music ever and best action movies ever.

first TV show (primetime) I remember watching as a kid was Miami Vice.
got the whole set as a Christmas gift a few years ago. I still watch a few episodes from time-to-time.

The eighties were a great time to go to LSU, that's for sure. I'd go back to that era in a hearbeat, if our alien overlords let me use their time machine.

Watching the 3rd and 4th episodes right now. Awesome documentary that reminds me how truly sh###y and forgettable the last decade and a half has been in comparison. Literally the only thing truly original that has come about in the last 15 years is "reality" TV's complete takeover of cable. We went from Cheers, The Cosby Show, Seinfeld, and Friends in the 80s and 90s to Teen Mom, Jersey Shore, and Here Comes the Honey Boo Boo nowadays. How did it get so bad so quickly?

Nat Geo (National Geographic). They are about to re-air all 4 of the episodes they've shown so far. They are about to talk about the Challenger explosion. Remember it like it was yesterday.

Things invented in the 80s:
1) Internet
2) Cell phones
3) VCRs/recording technology
4) modern video games
5) Cable TV
6) MTV (when it was decent and played music videos)
7) Documentary programming (Discovery Channel)
8) Rap/Hip Hop - before it became awful in the late 90s on.
9) ESPN
10) HBO
....and so on. Such a great and transformative decade.

90's were the worst decade...go watch The Real World or Reality Bites to refresh your memory while moaning about flannel, uptight chicks and Pearl Jam.

Haven't started watching it yet but have it on the DVR. Looking forward to it as a kid growing up in the 80s.

You are giving the 80s too much credit.
Thinks like cell phones, vcrs, cable, modern video games, and rap weren't invented in the 80s. I'm not sure the internet was either. Now these things may have become more popular, commercialized, and/or affordable in the 80s but they weren't invented then.

I'll give you HBO but ESPN didn't air until late 1979 and didn't really come of age until the early 80s. I also forgot to add one of most important inventions of the 20th century that started in the 80s which is the personal computer (PC)

The first commercially sold cell phones were in the 80s. The internet didn't take off commercially until the start of the 90s but Microsoft and other computer software companies were developing it throughout the mid to late 80s. Apple developed the McIntosh PC in the 80s. Pong was about the only video game around in the 70s so technically video games existed prior to the 80s but Atari, Nintendo, Coleco Vision, and Sega caused video games to explode on the scene in the 80s. Cable TV totally transformed in the 80s to what it is today. The 40 year Cold War with the Soviets ended in the 80s. While the 60s was the most important decade of the 20th century, the 80s were easily the most interesting and important decade since.

Had them all and Coleco was the best. Had the best controller and with Donkey Kong, Frogger and Zaxxon was amazing for its time. Even came with an Atari extension which I rarely used.
Sega didn't hit its stride until the 90's.
