Watching T2 on Syfy

I've always thought T2 was a better flick. One of the best sequels ever made. Arnold as the hero and the weird bond that forms between him and John is pretty funny at times. Terminator vs Liquid Metal Terminator action also surpasses the action from the original.

Thoughts?

I go back and forth between the two. I think T1 is the more powerful movie while T2 is more fun and entertaining. Perhaps like Alien and Aliens respectively. Growing up though, I couldn't get enough of Terminator 2. Alien/Aliens and Terminator/Terminator 2 are maybe the most kickass sequels ever made. Pretty crazy how James Cameron made 3 of those 4.

T1 for originality...T2 for special effects and turning Sarah into a badass.

the original terminator is a great scifi, but its also kind of campy.

T2 has a legit argument for being the greatest action movie of all time, and the special effects were revolutionary.

I just don't see how anyone can argue that terminator is better than T2.

It's like an awesome slasher movie but with guns IMO.

It's really unfair to compare the two. The Terminator was made on a paper thin budget and became the surprise hit of 1984. Terminator 2 was the most expensive movie ever made at that time and was also one of the most anticipated films of the 1991 summer movie season. You also have to consider they are almost two different genres. The Terminator is more of a sci-fi/horror/slasher film where as Terminator 2 is a sci-fi/action/adventure summer tentpole film.

I don't think you can compare them because 1 was more sci-fi/horror while 2 is action/sci fi.

Regardless of whatever arbitrary genre elements they incorporate, they're still genre films - not exactly high art. To say you can't compare the two is silly and pretentious.

T2 wins because of the GNR song alone. And the special effects.

We had to study them in a film class and if you really break them down, it's pretty clear that T1 is certainly the better all around film. The screenplay is pretty amazing. And what you say about T2 is spot on.

I'm in the minority, but I like the original far more. It is one of the "if it's on while I'm searching the guide I stop and watch" movies.

I've seen T2 maybe twice.

Same for me. Of course, I feel the same way about Alien and Aliens for nearly the same reason. I love the pace and feel of both originals. Both second films feel far too much like they took the pulse of the movie goers, decided what they liked the most, and then just fed them a heavy dose of that in the second film.

Fun as shite no doubt and I loved them both when they first came out...but I find myself always drawn to both originals more.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that i think T2 was kinda crap. never liked it. i mean it's better than T3,4, and probably 5, but it's never been something i wanted to see again.

Downvotes incoming.

agreed and the same for predator. there was just something about the campiness of that time that holds up.

T. Had better shock value. Arnold is awesome as the bad guy who won't stop coming. T2 is more polished but the shock factor and plot are better in the first one.

That scene where Arnold is shot repeatedly with shotgun, fall through window, gets up, is probably most chilling in whole series. The scene where he shoots up the police station really shows the futility of fighting him as it showed what they were up against.
