Terminator Genisys was a pretty good movie. Spoiler review.

SO yeah, I been a pretty big Terminator fan in general. I just like that whole time travel, war against the machines type of thing. It's my niche I guess you could say. Anyway, the movie in my opinion did a lot of things right.
1. We finally see the future war, and not a few second flash back, but the real deal and how the final days of victory was like. John Connor, was a bad arse and yet his knowledge came second hand from his mother Sarah. He made it happened but like he said, he had a cheat.
2. They choose a pretty good John Connor, at moments he seem like a cool down to earth guy but at others, he was the leader of the human resistance. For those that watch the franchise, the fact that any of the people in that room would die for him was done very well.
Then there was a nod to Terminator 1 Epilogue with Sarah where she asked what must have went through John's mind when he sent his father back. And in that beginning scene, you see his reluctance to do it yet, he knew it had to be done.
It was very nice.
3.There was very nice touch back to all four terminator film. You got the 1984 timeline, which was a call back to T1. The T-1000, police car chase scene and what not. T2. The campy Arnold and lame jokes T3. Kyle mention that people called John "The Prophet" in the intro, T4.
Overall the movie work, nice story, nice pacing, and it kind of make you figure things out. Convoluted? Not really for Sci Fi fans, for the average movie goers who want to see a Robot chasing a girl, probably. For those that like a Meta-angle story, this film was great with that.
I would watch it again with another group of friends for sure.
However, there are some nip picks. They gave away what could have been an awesome moment with John being the new Terminator. That could have been a huge reveal but nope they spoiled it.
Then there also the fact that nobody know who sent Arnold T-800 back. I am kind of rolling my eyes now, if the PC police got a hold of the Terminator franchise.
My Theory on why no one know who sent the T-800 back to help Sarah and why the T800 got it's memory erase. Is that another war is going on. Now in this movie you literally kill John Connor. Kyle also lived passed his 48 hour time window. Who's to say the child that is born to Kyle and Sarah after this movie will be John, what if it's a Jane?
It would be like Hollywood to be that P.C.
Then there the obvious thing with Arnold being a T-1000 upgrade that would let them change the Terminator actor later on to male or female.
Finally, Sarah worked well than she got all dewy eyed for Kyle? Kinda fast IMO.
Other than that, good movie!

The marketing definitely hurt this movie. If they would have just built up the movie as Sarah, Kyle, and the T-800 vs the T-1000 and then went with the big reveal the movie would have been much better

I enjoyed the movie a lot. Very glad I didn't see any of the trailers for it cause I can see how that would really ruin the movie for people.

It was much better than the trailers made it look. Showing that John was a Terminator was the dumbest decision as we all knew it when he showed up.
I liked it a lot, better than the Rotten tomatoes score for sure.
I hope it does well. The third best terminator, easily.

Yeah, that may be the single dumbest marketing decision I've ever seen promoting a major motion picture. It was dumber than JJ Abrams trying to fool everyone that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't Khan, and therefore a ton of people didn't want to waste their time seeing it. T-800 vs T-1000 for a rematch is enough to get most Terminator fans in the theater, but I felt simply insulted watching that trailer. Let's just spoil the big twist for the audience. Bunch of shite as far as I'm concerned.

I was in, as soon as they said "Terminator".
Any Terminator, Alien or Predator movie gets my money (though Predator has been letting me down lately)

Predator and not Alien?
Alien has Alien Resurection (which I kinda actually like) and Prometheus in its story and Predators is the one that let you down.

My biggest gripe. Why give away the plot twist? I was watching it and the whole time I was like "Damn that would have been awesome if I didn't know that was coming..."

It wasn't so much "bad" as it was boring. From a technical point of view, it was perfectly well put together, but the movie had no emotional core. I was in the weird position of not caring about a group of characters when the only reason I went to see the movie in the first place was because I cared about these characters. Even T3 had more tension than this. Utterly joyless.

I know critics aren't really liked here, but the 26% on RT that this movie has right now is enough to keep me away from the theater.

That was the stupidest move of the whole lead in marketing. I really liked Clarke's portrayal of John Connor as well. We finally get the future battle we wanted, we see a lot of 2029, and then when we see John again, it's like. "bullshite, he's a Terminator... Pops take him out"

Oh and going for a PG-13 rating really hurt this movie as well. It just doesn't feel like the same universe at all. It's an overall safer, dumber place.

It didn't even feel like John was really trying to kill them. He is like 3 generations ahead of Arnold, he should have been able to take him out pretty easily.

When 75% of a group that watches movies for a living says something sucks, you can pretty much take it to the bank that it sucks.

Meh. Terminator 3 was so bad, I ended my relationship with the franchise.

I didn't see the preview where John is a Terminator. So that part was so fricking cool.
The post apocalyptic world and war with the machines is amazing and all the throwbacks are well done.
R rating is the only thing I wish it had, the Judgement Day bombings could have been better because of that.
Overall I found it very entertaining, Jai Courtney just isn't very good of an actor. He made me much less interested in Kyle than I was before.

this could have helped a lot. Not saved it, but at least brought it to the level of t3 and t4

WTF? T4 was horrible. So you are saying this is worse than 4?
