SW question: Yoda or The Emperor? Whose stronger? (Probably spoilers eventually)

I always felt like it was the emporer since their dual was technically a push but it always seemed like Palpatine had the advantage. Plus the whole being able to conceal himself from the Jedi council is impressive.
I've seen other ppl lately say they were equal or that Yoda was stronger thus the question

Judging from the prequels, clearly the Emperor. Granted I think the OT implies they are much more powerful than they are shown as being in the prequels, so it's a toss up simply from what the OT tells us.

I've always had a major problem with the way that fight ended. So Yoda falls to the bottom of the room, was he not able to get back up and reengage the emperor? The rest of the battle was pretty damn cool but I hated how it finished.

I don't think either was intended to be a great warrior originally, they were supposed to be very wise and great teachers. Yoda even says he's not a great warrior and "wars do not make one great" in his first appearance. The better question would be "whose philosophy is more powerful?"
But your question as it stands is more similar to "who would win in a fight, Kierkegaard or Confucius?"
It's a dumb question, no matter how much the prequels tried to glorify the "Kierkegaard-Confusius rumble in the Senate."

Its gets philosophical.
It's much easier to give in to the dark side..and takes strength to not. So..

This is why the prequels really suck. It's not the dialog or acting but that it totally mocked what the characters like Yoda were supposed to be all about.

While I think Yoda is highly powerful, I think he'd be insulted by being called a warrior, as would Palpatine. I think they've both evolved well beyond that point. I figured they were so powerful the very fabric of the universe is at their command. This is highly supported by the Force Awakens and Kylo Ren's powers.
Just the sheer lack of creativity in the Force that Lucas showed with both characters is simply dumbfounding. Like how Yoda would ever be taken off guard with Force Lightning. I'd think the Emperor would have a few other things up his sleeve for Yoda. Instead Lightning is now a Level 6 Sith Power. I do think the lightsaber will be somewhat phased out as the sequel trilogy goes on as Rey and Kylo Ren get more powerful, and hopefully Luke faces off with Snoke.

Someone mentioned that Yoda was also very old at the point that they fought. He was exhausted and could not carry on. It would seem that Palpatine had reached the apex of his powers and was too strong for Yoda to overcome. So I'll go with the Emperor.
One of the things I loved about the Clone Wars was how they showed the Jedi Order. It was not universally beloved and was in some ways very questionable. It was a very dogmatic religious order that believed they were greater than regular people. So many wanted it torn down, if not outright destroyed.

Emperor. Palpy played the jedi order like a fiddle.
Yoda was so traumatized, he hid on Dagobah for the rest of his life

They were equally matched. Yoda sensed he could not beat Palpatine during their battle via Force vision and went into exile to wait for Luke. Anakin was stronger than both and, in time, would have been able to dominate both as he learned more.

They were equally matched so Yoda changed his strategy to wait for Luke the true one to bring balence to the force.

This comment will not go over well....
I think of the Jedi and sith with a very simplistic view of comparing them to superman vs. the joker...
I think superman is more powerful but his code and morality make him weak in defeating a total evil.

The way I see it, the Emperor can be Yoda but Yoda can hold his own against the Emperor up to a certain point.
Also this question was answered in Episode 3 where they FULL on went head to head against each other.
Also, here is food for thought. Emperor Palpatine was right next to the greatest Jedi master of the times. And Surrounded by THOUSANDS of Jedi's and yet... they couldn't sense him but he could sense THEM very well.

I've seen you post this about 100 times now. Obviously has nothing to do with the thread but I don't get your hate for the light saber. That IS Star Wars. If it wasn't then everyone would be walking around with one.

This is fricking stupid.

Yea I would have to see some sort of basis for that as there is no evidence of it that I've ever seen

It's written in some book that uber nerds like to reference to try and justify how little since the prequels make.
We would all just be a lot happier if we just disregard the prequels and everything that they establish. My kid still has no idea that they exist and it's gonna stay that way til he's eighteen and old enough to make that decision on his own.

The official novelization for Revenge of the Sith. It includes scenes that were cut out from the film, making the canonicity was questionable even before Disney bought Lucasfilm (the death of Shaak Ti retconned).
