and what other show would it compare to.

This pretty much.

Goonies+the thing+firestarter mixed in a blender of 80s awesomeness.

This thrilling Netflix-original drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983 -- inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences. When Joyce's 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, she launches a terrifying investigation into his disappearance with local authorities. As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl.

Goonies meets ET meets Stand by Me meets Poltergeist

A+ show. Absolutely amazing. Watch it.

I noticed they used the same Quarry outside of Atlanta that was on the first season of the walking dead

The show far exceeded my expectations--especially the kids and teenagers' acting capabilities. I was wowed from start to finish.

Rewatched episode 4 today and I think we need to figure out more about the incident with Shepard. Are we just sort of assuming the timeline here? Because Brenner calls him son affectionately and clearly cares deeply when he is killed, but it isn't clear whether he is an experiment or biological son.

I also felt like some scenes depicted Brenner attempting to use Eleven to connect to the monster in a vain and desperate attempt to find his son.

Either way, I feel like there were moments from Brenner where the directors were trying to communicate something that didn't really stick.

All of those scenes where he put her in the tank were prior to the formation of the rift, so she wouldn't be looking for someone who hasn't died yet.

The rift formed when she encountered the monster physically for the first time and she screamed.

I don't think that was Brenner's son at all. I'd say I'm fairly positive it isn't.

I think it was just someone he was showing respect towards because he was the first to traverse the rift.

Just watched all 8 episodes in a row, no shame. As a 90's kid, I don't get any of the nostalgia references y'all are talking about and it was still absolutely perfect. 11/10 would watch again.

Also, lowkey in love with Nancy

I'm a 90s kid as well, but I still love a lot of shite from
The 80s.
